Same here. I'm really disappointed that this is still not working correctly. I had limited success in using a highly outdated version of the NVIDIA Audio SDK with HAGS on. But that can be the solution.

Finally! OBS seems to have fixed it. Version 29.1.2 had something in the release notes about HAGS.

which is weird because this nvidia rep recommends to use nvenc with hags:

and yet i keep reading on this forum that hags should be off.
and from my experience, having hags on creates audible distortions in any game captured using the new beta application audio capture.
we're getting mixed signals here, it'd be nice to have a formal answer about if hags should be on or off...

It will surprise you, but i have problems with HAGS DISABLED :O
When i enable HAGS, my GPU runs to 70% playing and obs opened
When disabled: GPU at 100% and my obs is lagging ( even when not streaming or recording ), my stream doesn't lag, but for example, when i talk, i see my sounds bars lagging, and i have sometimes GPU overloads when i do a windows return for example.
I don't have these problems when i'm using HAGS
I only seen it when playing to "The Finals" game, which uses dlss 3 i think ( seen geforce update about that )
I'm on last windows 11 version with geforce 2070 super
Do you have any ideas about that ?

SAME card (RTX 2070 Super) and SAME issues as so2nyme
HAGS off: Huge performance hit with a "demanding" game and obs OPEN (no need to be streaming/recording, no scenes needed or anything), encoding overload constantly and cant even hit 30fps on games
HAGS on: Great performance, can stream at 60 fps most new games, BUT! OBS preview freezes randomly and when trying to fix/stop the stream, program crashes and must be restarted, this happens CONSISTENTLY for me after a League of legends match when returning to the lobby (can even be the practice tool, so you can test this repeatedly and quickly)
There MUST be some workaround to allow us to keep HAGS on!, I've read disabling OBS from the first two cores of your CPU might help, I'm currently trying that but its my first day and havent played league yet. Please find a workaround, new nvidia cards also need HAGS on to use their full potential.

Some questions whose answers might assist with troubleshooting:
- Which version of Windows are you using?
- Which version of OBS are you using?
- Does OBS freeze and/or crash when you stop the stream while...
- ...the preview is disabled, or only when the preview is enabled?
- ...all 3rd-party plugins, scripts, and websockets are disabled, or only when they are enabled?
- This can be accomplished by launching OBS with the --safe-mode parameter according to the instructions at https://obsproject.com/kb/launch-parameters
I havent tried with the preview off to be honest, I guess I could try that, since, as many have reported, the only thing that "freezes" and becomes unusable is the preview, however OBS keeps being usable unless you try to stop stream or close the program, in which case it freezes too. I doubt that would fix the issues but I might try it.
I'm using Windows 10 PRO, Version 22H2, and OBS 30.1.2
So far ive been switching back and forth using HAGS on/off depending on the game im going to play, because, as much as I hate freezes, the performance increase of having HAGS ON is TOO MUCH for me, so if the game is demanding, I turn HAGS ON, if Im just playing League of legends, I turn it OFF, its a hassle to reboot the pc daily depending on game but its the only thing that makes sense until someone somewhere finds a fix.

It would be easier to judge performance impact if users described their setup at least a little and run at least one graphics benchmark like Unigine Superposition with 1) OBS off 2)OBS + HAGS On 3) OBS + HAGS Off
Do not know about Nvidia but for Radeon on W11 HAGS results in much higher performance impact.
W11, 7900 XTX, 4K H265 capture
No OBS: Superposition 8K: 8850 points
OBS+HAGS On: 7450 points, a lot of stuttering both on the screen and in recorded file (captured frame duplication! not rendering lag)
OBS+HAGS Off: 8500 points, no stuttering on screen, slight stuttering in recorded file

By the way, how is Shadowplay dealing with this? Is it not affected because it does not use composition?
