RTX 3090 Encoding Overload Issues (Not Streaming, Just Recording)

I told you that I DID record to a different drive. I recorded to a SN850 that caused the issue firstly, then made sure it wasn't just the drive by testing using my Samsung 970 Pro that I regularly use. I'm not here to ask anyone to help me to fix my hardware. I'm asking for troubleshooting help from people who have been through the same issues. Your listening is wonderful. You'd probably be great in HR! -.-

So how's the CPU when you're encoding the lossless? Our systems should be similar in performance but that appears not to be the case since no lag over here. I was @ 33% utilized, 40c using your settings.

Did you check with GPU-Z? Is the 3090 @ x16 4.0?

Is the 3090 connected to the power supply correctly?

Have you checked the support page for your mobo for new drivers/BIOS updates?

Right now there are far more questions than answers.

The CPU says 2% when encoding the lossless. But honestly as soon as it gets to the 2nd second of encoding it already says "Encoding Overload". I'm 99% sure this is something related to the CPU, not GPU, because the UTVideo encoder is a software encoder that uses the CPU.

Just tried turning on GPU hardware scheduling, didn't fix it. Tried turning on Resizable BAR, didn't fix it. Just going through the motions until I figure it out. Seen a lot of people with 5000 series Ryzen with similar issues so I'm hoping someone figured it out. It's going to end up being some obscure bios setting and I'm going to facepalm so hard!

GPU-Z says PCIE 4.0 x 16

The 3090 is connected to the power supply correctly. I re-checked all of the wires to make sure they were tightly inserted and they were.

All motherboard updates, GPU driver updates, etc... have been installed.

Run Cinebench if something is up with the CPU, you'll know real fast.

Was the system shipped? It's new, GPU is heavy. If it wasn't supported correctly, it may need a re-seat.

The system has not been shipped, nor moved since I built it. I thought maybe the GPU got un-seated as well so I re-seated it for peace of mind. Sadly the same result followed.

I then ran Cinebench 2024.

Got a CPU (Multi-Core) score of 1179 Points and a CPU (Single Core) score of 96 Points

The MP Ratio says 12.31 x

I know this has to be something silly like a single BIOS setting that needs to be changed so fix this, but I'm just really hoping someone has the secret keys to the castle! :)

Don't think it's just a BIOS setting. That Cinebench score is beyond bad, more like dreadful. Did you monitor temps, was your CPU being throttled? I just ripped 1955 on a single core. Not too far off from doubling your multicore score which should be something like 30,000.
 
So I accidently opened CinebenchR23. They changed up the scoring with 2024. Good news, your scores look better, a little low but not dreadful. 96 for the single core is good but the multi-core should be 1600. That's telling me the CPU is getting throttled when it's running maxed out. Is it air, AIO, or custom loop?

I wasn't throttling. My fans were at 100% and the temps were low the whole time. However, you may have just helped me solve my issue and for that I am so thankful!

When you said I may be throttling it made me think to open HwInfo64 and give it a look and one of my sticks of ram is not registering and has become faulty because it's only showing 32 of 64 GB, and it says "Single-Channel" instead of "dual-channel" for the 2 that are there so maybe I just need to buy a new ram stick!! :) I tried to re-seat the RAM and tried it in different slots, but it seems like it's a goner. I guess it must have just died over the last few weeks or something. Thank you so much for your help!

Tl;dr CHECK HWinfo64, look at your RAM speeds and CPU speeds! If your RAM shows weird stuff, check it out!!

I'll update this post when I've gotten new RAM to replace this faulty stick and I'll be able to tell everyone if that's the solution.

I'm 99% sure we figured it out though, and for that I appreciate you all so much!
 
If you buy new, get a pair. The sticks are paired/matched at the factory for XMP to work properly. Don't buy just a single stick.

Getting matched pairs is always the best option. Totally agree. Do you think the computer only running on a single stick of 32 GB ram is the cause of these wild encoding errors? The single-channel vs dual-channel aspect?
 
Hopefully that's the only issue. Faulty RAM causes all types of issues, clearly it's messing with the CPU performance & most likely everything else. I see you attempted to move them to different slots. Before that, were they installed in slots 2 & 4?

I never attempted to run on a single stick but with the bad stick out of the mix it might be worth a shot for the time being.
