Question / Help Roxio Game Capture HD Pro Problem

Hello,

Does the Roxio Game Capture HD Pro work with OBS? I've tried quite a few things to make it work but all I can get it to do is display a set of colored bars. Does anyone have a fix or know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Regarding this spreadsheet support for the Roxio Game Capture HD is not tested.
You should get into the OBS chat and try to check it with the devs in there, maybe they can help you to get it running.

Alright. I'm probably being a bit of an idiot, but I'm new here! Where is OBS chat? All I can find are the forums!

The only way to add the Roxio to OBS is to use Window/Monitor capture on the Roxio program.

I'll most likely get it working in the rewrite, I'm going to be working on it soon(tm), but note that USB 2.0 capture devices are just unideal for live streaming due to their internal delay. If you're capturing HDMI and and streaming with a desktop computer, then there are just so many better options available that don't have any of the problems that these devices have. Specifically, internal capture cards.

Hmm, by internal delay what exactly do you mean? What effect would that have on the stream itself? Would that mean that if I was doing commentary that it would be out of sync? Or would it simply be that if I was using the preview window to play the game that it would be impossible due to the delay? If it's simply that the video/audio would be delayed on the stream than this wouldn't matter too much anyway would it? Because Twitch has a delay anyway.

They have a often have a latency of 1500+ milliseconds due to the fact that they have to encode/decode the video stream. It causes it to be a configuration nightmare with streaming because you have to sync up everything else you're compositing or recording to it. If you have a mic, you have to configure delay for it, if you have a webcam you have to configure delay for it. Then some people want to sync up their desktop sound with it, which has to also be configured for it. Then some USB 2.0 devices tend to have gradual desyncing, which means that the stuff you tried to sync up with it can go out of sync in that case. It's a nightmare, and I just want to avoid new users from making the same mistake.

If you are on a desktop PC and want to capture HDMI, buy an internal card. If you're on a laptop, get a USB 3.0 device if you can afford it if your laptop has any USB 3.0 ports.
