Question / Help Red square when displaying PNG's renamed to .gif after latest update

On my stream, I have a thing that lets people switch the background via chat commands. It works by having an image loaded in OBS with "check for changes" checked, and then the image gets overwritten when the background needs to be changed.

To allow animated backgrounds I needed the loaded image to be a .gif, and before the latest update it worked fine to just take any image (png, jpg ect) and rename it "background.gif". I chose to do that instead of actually saving all the backgrounds as .gif, to keep the quality that would be lost otherwise.

After the update when I try to display an image that has been saved as PNG but renamed .gif, it just displays a red square as if the file wasn't found.

Is this how it's supposed to work, or is there anything I can do to avoid having to save everything as .gif?
