Question / Help Recording resolution

Hi guys I'm trying to record some gameplay(spelunky), but I have a 16:10 monitor (1650x1080 res) and as far as I know youtube wants 16:9 format does anyone know how to set recording resolution so that it won't crop the video in any way, the best I've got thus far was a black bar all around it(when recording it in 1600x900 and then converting it down to 1280x720) in other cases it just cut out parts of image.

There's no way to do this without compromising the image quality. You should record at 16:10 and upload the 16:10 video directly to youtube. Their video player will then add black bars if the video is played back on a 16:9 monitor.

If you really want to do this, you should run your game at a 16:9 resolution. It will look ugly for you, but the generated video will be 16:9 and look good for your viewers.

Yeah i've tried that but then it just cuts out sides of the video but if you say that youtube will deal with it then I guess im just going tu upload those vids in 1344x840 I dont really mind if they will have black bars on top and bottom I just dont want them to be cropped. Thanks.

I also have a 16:10 monitor and I just set the resolution to a 16:9 ratio in windows before I stream or record. Unless the game allows me to set a custom resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Well yeah I tested it with different setting and the only ones that didn't crop the image in a weird way were ones that I recorded in screen res(1680x1050) and downscaled to 1344x840 and then it doesn't really matter whenever the game runs in 16:9 or 16:10 so I guess i'll just try putting some 16:10 stuff on YT and see how that works out.

Sorry for late reply but it was a really busy week. Cheers.
