Question / Help Recording Gamecube

Hi, I've been trying to record Gamecube gameplay with OBS. I got an AVI>HDMI converter to hook the Gamecube up to my Avermedia capture card, and then to the TV. But when I record or hit preview recording, it shows up black. Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks

Does it show signal in the Avermedia software? There are a lot of possible reasons this is happening.

I just checked by making a scene with Video Capture Device as the scene, went into properties>configure and in video decoder it says Signals Detected: 1. Lines: 525

Yes, but if you open up the Avermedia software instead of OBS, do you get video from the Gamecube.

I don't. I have game console>HDMI selected. 1680X1050 res

Sounds like an issue with the capture card or converter then. Nothing OBS can do if the cap card isn't grabbing video.

Also possible that your converter box isn't putting out a signal in-range for the capture card. But yeah, this is why I have an SC512; takes composite video, or better yet component video from a first-generation Wii for that sweet, sweet 480p progressive scan mode, without needing the $200+ Gamecube component cable.

Maybe get s-video + yellow av cable that allows one video connection to tv, the other to a cheap 480i capture card.
Y-Adapters can be used to split the audio to go to tv and (line in or capture card).

I was looking into an el gato capture card to replace my avermedia live hd series. Since me and my brother plan to record a variety of systems.


Edit: I can get the gamecube to show up on the TV just fine with my AVI>HDMI converter

For HDMI converter, try to set it to 720x480, 1280x720, or 1920x1080, those are what most HDMI capture cards accepts.

With the converter I have, I can select 720. or 1080p, and change it to Svideo, Video, or HDMI. Any setting besides video won't show up on the TV. So that's probably why Avermedia won't recognize it. Though it does acquire the sound

Testing around with avermedia. Noticed on the preview screen when I unplug the HDMI connected to the TV and plug it in, the game flashes weirdly on the preview screen then disappears.

Edit: And when I click the record button it says Recording Failed. Content is Copyright protected

HDMI may have HDCP copy protection. On PS4, HDCP can be turned off in settings, system.

What HDMI converter you using? It might have an option to turn off HDCP, depending on what it is. Old video game consoles like GameCube don't put copy protection on analog video connections.

It literally just says Video Converter. I ordered an HDMI splitter which apparantley removes the HDCP annoyance so we'll see how that goes
