Question / Help Record 60FPS even when actual FPS is lower?

I wonder and it could be my imagination but, I currently playing and recording a game where I capped the FPS to 30 and I set OBS recording also to 30FPS looks correct right?
But the recording Itself is not as smooth as my actual gameplay.

It came to my mind even if I cap the FPS ther Hertz of 60 of my monitor still produces 60 Pictures per second.
So I rose the number to 60FPS in OBS but the game remains 30FPS and it seems to me that the recording looks smoother now, anyone can confirm that?

the best method is not to cap the fps in the games. this is because not every frame syncs with what OBS attempts to capture (or hook). When this happens, the recording might seem to "skip" frames.

post your logfile from the help menu of OBS. upload the logfile that you last recorded or streamed with then copy the link here.

1. so un cap the frames per second with in the game (dont even use vsync).

2. set the fps of what you want your output video to look like. commonly 30fps. 60fps needs a pretty strong (desktop) i7 for the most part.

Was just a general overall question.
I capped the game to 30FPS because It jumps to much any higher and that would definetly cause the problem you just mentioned am I right?
And yeah got i7-4790k@4,4GHz so Performance is not an Issue.
The game is just poorly optimized.
And If I disable Vsync I got horrible tearing all over the place, at least for my eyes.

having 70, 150, or even 300 fps in a game is not bad for streaming as OBS will take what frames it needs for the capture. the more in-game frames, the more selection OBS will have and wont have to wait on the game get its next frame.

so capping to 30fps in game bad for streaming, allowing unlimited fps good.

But I am recording and not streaming. With a Stable 30FPS. And I record with 30FPS. So is it really better if I would go up to 40FPS and record 30FPS? Could that not cause OBS to capture the "wrong" frame and also cause the illiusion of skipping frames? If not I will raise it to 40FPS of course.

I just thought even numbers are better than different.

It's for a let's play.

same difference with recording or streaming. even with 30fps in game doesn't mean a 30fps capture is syncing up with the fps in game. so tearing could happen. you're being so logical about your thought process. in a perfect world, yes, 30fps would be best for 30fps capture.

So In conclusion, having a higher FPS ingame than the one you Capture in is better? I got that right then.
Thx for the Help.

ok so i ask, what happens if you record at 59.940, and the game runs at 40-60? i'm not asking about "if i should" i wanna know what effect that has on the final product from the viewers perspective?

dping, i felt my "question" was 100% relevant to this thread.

I guess that would mean it would look like 40-60fps recording. It might even look like half that. due to stuttering.

For future reference, it would be best to start your own thread instead of using someone elses
