Hai guys.

Been streaming for about 6 months and am finally getting fed up of having a 30fps stream.
I spoke to Jim earlier and he said that a new GFX card would definitely be the way to gain a higher fps stream.

Currently I stream at 45fps at 720p (although there are some small fluctuations). In game (TF2) I have fps capped and stable at 300fps.

Current setup:
i5 2500k OC'd to 4.4GHz
8.00GB DDR3 @ 1600
896MB XFX GeForce GTX 260
Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P
120GB Sandisk SSD
1.5TB Western Digital HD
Corsair H60 Water Cooling
LG W2363D 120Hz Monitor
LG W2261VP 60Hz Monitor (secondary)

So yeah, looking to increase my stream fps to 60, and hoping to spend as little as possible (but I suppose I could go up to about £180 if REALLY necessary).

Thanks in advance folks.

Re: Recommend me a GFX card capable of streaming 720p at 60f

If you have stable 300 fps then you are fine , since the graphics card itself only need to do one job , provide enough fps. so if you are above 60 fps while streaming then you can stream at 60fps . only if you are streaming and you set obs to lets say 720p @ 60fps and ingame you drop lower than 60 fps than it would look choppy.

Your system so far looks good enough to stream at your desired Settings(depending on the game of course).
The only bottleneck so far is for sure your GPU , so it was a right call to replace it with something more up to date.

If you can't wait and you desperately need a new card then i recommend you getting either a 7870 or a 7950 (since amd delivers a bit more performance at medium range cards for your money). Or even try to get a used Gtx 570 on ebay (which still would be a huge upgrade over your current card).

However, i would strongly recommend just saving up one more month , selling your gtx 260 on ebay and use the money to get a GTX 670 (this thing will be jaw dropping compared to your current card) since its the best bang for you buck currently out of all cards if you can afford it(this card offers such a good performance for its price that even if you have more money to spend it would be stupid to go for a Gtx680 unless its a bargain and the price is almost similar).

Hmm I haven't found this to be true at all...
Here's a VOD from last night, this was set to 60fps but fraps on the vod shows it ranges from 30-50fps and it certainly doesn't look like 60fps:

http://www.twitch.tv/cube_tf2/b/369505783

In comparison, below is a friends VOD which looks much more smooth and is at 60fps:

http://www.twitch.tv/elemvethug/b/369092338

Looks much smoother.

Re: Recommend me a GFX card capable of streaming 720p at 60f

For whatever reason sometimes on twitch you won't get 60 fps while watching streams or vod , monitoring them with fraps . It even depends if you have aero enabled . I can watch a vod with fraps and will get 34 fps then a day later i get 60fps stable . i also believe that this has something to do with adobe flash player.

I was watching treebles stream yesterday (a bf3 player with a 2 pc setup to stream in 720p@ 60fps) and his stream also only delivered 38is fps.

But in general if you have 300 fps ingame , and you have a 2500k plus no dropped frames while obs showing you that you stream at 60 fps . It is 60fps. Wouldn't surprise me if this once again is twitch related , flash player and or aero dependent.

On a sidenote if you have trouble streaming at 60Fps while having stable 300 fps, chances are that a different graphics card that will grant you over 700 fps won't change anything and that the problem lies somewhere else.

Well every single one of my VODs doesn't stay at 60 stable and every one of his do... So I really do doubt that its a "sometimes" thing. I don't have aero enabled and neither does he.

Re: Recommend me a GFX card capable of streaming 720p at 60f

Then you should post a logfile for someone to look into it . Since you have everything you need to stream at 60fps if you get 300fps ingame. Additionally your friend has a very similar system to yours.

i get on both of the vods his and yours 38-41fps.

But regardless of this issue , it is still a good idea to get a new gfx card since yours is outdated and a new one will definitely make you happy!

edit:

after watching some of my vods i get the same result on my 60fps vod which i have watched a week ago with stable 60fps and now its at 40fps as well . so this must be twitch/adobe flash player related.

Re: Recommend me a GFX card capable of streaming 720p at 60f

The thing is, you need to remember that there is some GPU load from OBS since it renders the scene on the video card itself. Perhaps you running TF2 at 300 frames per second is simply not leaving enough GPU processing power for OBS to render 60 frames per second? This is hard to say for sure, since you haven't posted any logs, but you should try capping TF2 at some more sensible value.

==============================================================

This is from last night (attempting 45fps stream). Here's the VOD it refers to: http://www.twitch.tv/cube_tf2/b/369505783

A couple of questions on the Log:
1. Why does it say "Physical Memory: 4095MB Total, 4095MB Free"? Is that because I am using the 32 bit version? I'll switch to the 64 bit version now that it supports capturing 32 bit games.
2. CPU speed says 3.3ghz but its OC'd to 4.4 ghz

A couple of questions on the VOD: (I am using fraps to analyse the vods fps)
1. When I start streaming (desktop and splash screens) it shows a stable 45fps, but as soon as I start streaming TF2 it fluctuates between 25-45 and looks choppy. As I've said in above posts, compare that to my friends stream at 50fps: http://www.twitch.tv/elemvethug/b/369092338 which looks much smoother and fraps shows 49-51fps, super stable. I've got screenshots of all his settings and there's nothing different except his bitrates are higher cause he has better internet and his fps is set to 50 (mine is 45 but looks bad).

Cheers gang!

Edit: thanks for your post paibox. That's kind of what I think is happening, hence why I'm asking for a recommended GFX card. I'll try capping fps to 240 tonight (anything lower then that and you can really start to feel it in TF2 on a 120hz screen). Will see if it makes any difference.

Re: Recommend me a GFX card capable of streaming 720p at 60f

Ah yeah, your log (the lagged frames part) is telling me that's exactly what's happening. It's just an important thing to keep in mind, since while OBS uses hardly any CPU compared to say XSplit, it still needs that bit of GPU processing power to render the scene in a timely fashion.

Re: Recommend me a GFX card capable of streaming 720p at 60f

Alright, well ill try capping at 240 tonight, using the 64 bit version and upping my fps to 50/60.

If it's still not stable then I'll look at getting myself a new gfx card as it's about time I upgraded anyway.

Cheers guys.

Re: Recommend me a GFX card capable of streaming 720p at 60f

Ok so made the changes (capped fps at 200, ran 64 bit client and upped my stream fps to 50).

Here is the result (looks much better and fraps shows it stays pretty stable 46-50fps):
http://www.twitch.tv/cube_tf2/b/370443489

Opening the log shows that I'm still getting a fair amount of lagged frames, is that a problem?

Re: Recommend me a GFX card capable of streaming 720p at 60f

I would very much like to second the recommendation for a GTX 670. It's the best GPU I have ever owned, by far.

GTX 670 = best bang for your buck (and it has a ton of "bang" that is for sure!).

Necroing cause this is top link in google search for 260gtx and 60fps.
The 260 is incapable of supplying obs with 60fps when the demand of the game is too high. You could get all the 300fps in the world it struggles if the fps is too high. Some games allow you to cap max fps so the gpu doesn't have to go full throttle. (left over processing power for obs)

I have both a r9 270 and the 260, the r9 270 gets similar ingame fps, but it can actually stream the game at 60fps. There's something wrong with how the 260 handles multiple high demand rendering threads. Or maybe its total processing power gets chewed up more quickly then most cards.
