Question / Help Randomsteve69

Hi all,

Question - and this may not be the correct place for this. I started streaming on twitch two days ago with a new account. I installed OBS downloaded from the twitch site. On my first stream I had one viewer (apart from myself) named RandomSteve69.

My other two friends started streaming yesterday. They too downloaded OBS and surprise surprise... there was randomsteve69 as a viewer.

I join a chat with 0 viewers and randomsteve69 is there. I change to firefox (which has my other account) and there is randomsteve69 viewing the same videos as myself - you get the idea.

Is randomsteve69 something that is included in OBS? - potentially as a malicious bot or something tracking my twitch movements? Or is this some twitch bot? Seems strange to me that it is named similarly to myself!

(googling 'randomsteve69' and there is reference from some random person I have never watched or heard of thanking it for being apart of her stream)

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Little worried I have downloaded some tracking program from OBS (although would like to think that this is not the case!)

I just noticed that other viewer who is in both those screen shots as well.... badewannedestodesofdoom

April fools?
Genuine question from someone who has started streaming with friends - and we all get the same viewer in our twitch chat. (and every video we view now)

As mentioned. Prob not the right place for it and I apologize for that.

No need to apologize, it just sounded so strange :D
Cool. I can click on any twitch stream - view chat and that randomsteve69 is in every chat. Any idea's on where this has come from would be much appreciated (so if it is something malicious I can get rid of it!)

Since its in every Twitch stream it's most likely something from Twitch directly.

Sweet - ok. I am surprised I could find no other reference to it though. Surly others would have noticed the same viewer who never talks on all their videos.... and all videos they view.

Would be interested if others can see it in twitch chats when they view who is in them. If you search for the actual profile on twitch itself.... it doesn't sound like something that would be official - it follows a handful of users and has a hundred or so followers.

The other one ... Badewannedestodesofdoom has 600ish followers.

Very strange.

They're both likely bots (I see them as well) & crawling data without seeking express permission to do so from streamers which is a pretty scummy practice

I confirm. They were scouting my russian stream as well. Well, they raised viewer count past midnight, so I don't mind.

Yep. Likely just a dataminer bot or chat scraper looking for email addresses or whatever. Which is dumb, as 30 seconds and a packet sniffer will let you see how to log into Twitch chat in anonymous listen-only mode, and not even show up in the viewer list. But I suppose that would take more effort than just plugging in the credentials for a created account. And more technical skill than whatever script kiddiot or marketroid probably bunged this thing together for whatever reason.

I am here to confirm those accounts are Twitch mods.
I noticed those two profiles following me around, wherever I went. Creeped me out. I had to do some research and I found this site with a list of the top 500 mods.

Not sure what the mods do, but they are both listed here: https://twitchstuff.3v.fi/mods/top use [Ctrl] + [F] to open your browser "find" tool and start typing the profile name.

@Sapien you are right about that. My bad. I always try not to be the guy who opens his mouth without knowing what he's talking about. So much garbage on forums there days.

anyways, are there any resources to determine what those bots do? I even booted them from my channel, but they come right back.

Nope. And banning doesn't remove them from your channel, just prevents them from talking. Which they don't anyway. Most likely they're just logging anything said in chat. Could be for anything; scraping email addresses, tracking how many times the word 'cardamom' is used, watching how many times a certain person is active across all chats. No one knows except whoever put the bot there, and there's no way to find that out unless they advertise it.
