Question / Help Quick Sync + Shadow Play

Can they be used simultaneously? For instance, use quick sync to stream and shadowplay to record locally. How much of a performance hit would I be looking at with an i5 4760k with a 750ti?

You mean nvenc? Being able to use two encoders at once will be possible in the future, but not currently possible.

You should be able to do this now by using -multi on the command line (windows target shortcut) and running two instances of OBS at the same time. I haven't tried it, but I do use x264 for streaming and NVENC for local recording with a 750Ti, and it works great.

Yes, using -multi should work, though be warned that directshow devices (webcams and capture cards) cannot be used by more than one program at a time.

Thanks for the tips guys. I was wanting to know for my next build. Im just gonna get an 8320 and pair it with a 760 for the Nvenc codec.

My capture card works fine using -multi even when I use DirectShow instead of the Datapath plugin, FYI.

To the OP, even some relatively inexpensive CPUs include the HD Graphics 4600: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006519 40000343 600464706&IsNodeId=1 , don't have to go all-out for the i7 if you know you'll use Quicksync and NVENC.

It would depend on which Quicksync quality preset is in use, but generally it should be around 10% CPU usage. I don't use this myself so I can't say anything on it with much accuracy. Also I don't recall if they added changing Quicksync quality presets to OBS yet, but I think its scheduled to be added at some point if it isn't already.

Yea thats pretty much correct. It can vary a bit depending on what stuff you add to your scene in OBS of course as well as the cpu you use in the end.
But with the haswell generation quicksync you are pretty good set for streaming, and with an nvidia graphics card you also get nvenc for the high quality stuff. So yea, go for the 4670 + nvidia :)

I had to make a few budget cuts so I ended up with an 8350 and a 270x. Im not disappointed though. Chews through every game I play and stream besides Smite with no problem. Smite is just horribly optimized for AMD chipsets, so I cant stream at 720p @ 60fps. Every other game does it w/o breaking a sweat. Process Lasso has OBS on 4 cores and my game on 4 so neither is interfering with the other. Everything is peachy lol. Thanks, though.
