Question / Help Question for people using Haswell HD4600 Quicksync

Howdy pals. I finally started buying some new hardware and picked up the 4770k and mobo.

After reading some posts it looked like people are liking the Quicksync with Haswell and comparing it to the "Faster" preset. I was wondering if anyone was running 720p 60fps at a lower bit rate, say around 3000 (instead of 3500) with good results.

I planned on turning my old i5 machine into a stream box and use less upload (my upload caps at 4, but seems very finnicky), but sounded promising to be able to just cannibalize some of the old hardware to get my new rig up faster.

Anyways, since I can't yet just test for myself, what kind of settings are HD4600 people running?

So far I am not sure I have seen a quicksync stream apart of Intels showcase quite some time ago. The quality seems to depend on the CPU generation as well, so a perfect answer is hard to make.
In general you are limited to the same bitrates, as with x264 cpu encoding, as well. A minimum bitrate, depending on the resolution and fps of your stream is always necessary for a certain quality and the maximum bitrate you should use will also be the same or your viewers will not be able to view too high bitrates.
In the end you should probably give it a test as soon as you can, or wait for someone to post some example videos :)

You have an "old" i5 4670 sitting around to use as a streambox?

Each successive generation of Intel CPU uses a newer and improved version of Intel HD Graphics. In the thread title, you specified the Haswell edition, the HD4600. If you actually have an "old" Ivy Bridge i5, then your Intel HD Graphics won't be as good, and the "old" Sandy Bridge i5 integrated graphics is a bit worse than even that. Anything older than a Sandy won't be able to do Quicksync encoding at all.

So you say you have an "old" i5, to me that precludes it being the Haswell version that has the best integrated GPU. Is your i5 really "old" or really "new"? The HD 4600 Graphics that comes with the better Haswell chips is the first Intel GPU that can really eclipse OBS' default Very Fast preset.

My current (old) rig uses an i5 2500k. I'm currently building a system with a recently purchased i7 4770k, though I don't have the system up and running yet (slowly buying hardware as I can afford it)

My original intention was to use the i5 as a stream box using the cpu (not quicksync), but am instead considering using the haswells igpu (using 1 pc instead of 2)

This thread is asking for feedback from people who use HD4600 for streaming (settings and such)

Finally downloaded and watched the clips. Thanks so much for taking the time.

Was really surprised that you were able to smoothly run the faster preset under x264 for BF4. Sounds like I should just use the CPU until I find a game even more demanding!

Again, thanks for the post and vods.
