I was looking to stream Dark Souls 2 when it comes out but I can't make my mind on a capture card, since it's my first time and it's just a wild idea I didn't wanna shell out 200$ for one so I was thinking of going with this

AVerMedia AVerTV HD DVR C027 PCI-Express x1 Interface

I literally have no idea how capture cards work but I do not want to downgrade from HDMI.

Will I still be able to play the game on my tv while I have OBS like just streaming the output ?

The PS3 has HDCP, so you can't just capture it with HDMI. It's easier to capture via component.

Hmm, so I would need to output my PS3 in composite and I would need to look at my game in composite, text is almost impossible to read when using composite. I probably would need some kind of explanation on how a capture card works because to me it looks like what I record as is gonna be what I also see on my screen so if I HAD to use composite I basically would play the game as if I was using composite which is something I don't even wanna think about.

I kinda like the idea of the hd72a but I can't order from Ebay and I cannot find that card on newegg.ca (I can only order from Amazon.ca and Newegg.ca, I live in Canada.)

If there is literally no way to make it work like I want it to work with standard capture cards I'll just go ahead and buy a Hauppauge HD PVR

I really just wanted to know if there was a cheaper alternative that would allow me to stream games while being not making my games look visually worse on my TV. Doesn't seem like any capture card has video pass through.

Wait wait wait, Composite(Yellow Connector) is not Component (RedGreenBlue Connectors). And its quality should be very similar to hdmi :)
The Avermedia C127 Game Broadcaster HD should be able to capture that I guess, up to 1080p. And I think the ps3 can output component and hdmi at the same time, but I am not safe on that.

Shows what I know haha.

Yeah that would work but I actually made up my mind on getting an HD PVR just because I've actually seen it work in real life and I know what I'm buying at least.

Good luck then, I would recommend to search this forum and other for HD PVR user reports before really getting one.
Its not yet supported by OBS if I remember correct, apart of it being a usb 2.0 device...

I registered at this site just to throw my 2 cents in on this subject.

I have an Avermedia Gamebroadcaster HD for streaming on twitch whenever I play DUST 514 on my PS3.
To bypass the PS3's HDCP I am using a HDMI splitter so one signal goes from the PS3 into the capture card, and the other signal goes straight to the monitor. And I am playing via the monitor signal. OBS works great too with the card and everything, as I have gotten no complaints from viewers on my stream. Fact is I am getting alot of praise over the quality. Only complaint was the microphone issue, but that got solved by disabling rightsound on my Logitech webcam.
