Is it still mandatory to have a Quick Sync capable board in order to utilize the feature in OBS or will simply downloading the iGPU driver suffice?

Yes, of course. If you don't have Quick Sync support you will not be able to use it.

That's a bummer. I found the perfect board (http://www.msi.com/product/mb/H87G43.html) and didnt see anything about quick sync in the manual: It matches all of my parts too :(. Is it possible that it may be under another name in the bios section of the manual?

I want to say that motherboard might have Quick Sync support, but the real problem is that no one really states if they have it or not. You have to roll the dice and hope it works... H87/Z87 has the ability to use Quick Sync it just depends on the bios/drivers and the company to test to see if it actually works. It's really hit or miss and quite annoying. I am lucky my Gigabyte Z87-UD3H has working Quick Sync qq

Im thinking the same thing. A H87 is basically just a Z87 without OC capabilities (per say). It'd be nice if their website had a live chat.
