Question / Help Question About Bandwith Usage In OBS

Recently comcast has recently implemented a data download cap in my area, Atlanta, Georgia. I enjoy streaming Dota 2 from time to time but I'm always very close to reaching the 300gb download cap. My question is, when I stream, is OBS using any DOWNLOAD bandwith (and if so, how much?), not upload.

Other than the usual TCP acks, OBS will not use any significant amount of downstream bandwidth.

You may want to verify that the cap is for downloads only. Comcast has been implementing that cap in more locations lately (including here in Memphis) and it seems to be a general data cap of download+upload bandwidth.

Unfortunately I can't find that information anywhere since most people aren't concerned about their upload bandwith usage so there are no posts complaining about it.

Michael: I understand you would like to know the data cap in your area. Let me check this.

Alex_: Thank you

Michael: May I have 2 minutes to check this?

Alex_: Sure

Michael: Thank you.

Michael: Thank you for patiently waiting.

Michael: Upon review, the data cap in your area has been increased to 300GB. And we will offer additional gigabytes in increments/blocks of 50 GB for $10 each.

Alex_: Well I was curious if that cap applied to both download and upload

Michael: That applies to the download size only.

Alex_: So if I were to use over 300GB of upload, as long as I don't reach the 300GB download cap I will not be charged extra?

Michael: Yes, that is correct. I can also refer to call our Customer Security Assurance team for other information regarding the data cap.

Alex_: I don't have any questions other than that but as long as that information is correct then I don't require speaking to the Customer Security Assurance Team.

Michael: Sure.

Michael: The data cap applies to the download size only.

Alex_: Thank you for your assistance

Michael: Sure. You are welcome.
