Question / Help PS4 recording (firmware 1.70)

Hello

Now that Sony allow you to switch off the HDCP function that encrypts PS4 footage, I'm still running into a black screen problem when I try to record.

I'm using a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card through my PC, and while the Blackmagic software is able to display/record PS4 footage, OBS still has a blank screen.

I've tried switching between 720, 1080i and 1080p, but to no avail. Any one had this problem and/or has a solution to it?

Thanks in advance.

From what I can tell, the PS4 with HDCP turned off reports a resolution of 1080p (60Hz) no matter what resolution you set it to. It's likely a bug with Sony's patch, and thus it can only be captured using a device that supports 1080p60 input.

As far as I know, the BMIP only supports 1080p30, a more which I'm not sure if you can even set on the PS4. Either way until Sony fixes their broken patch or pick up a cheap Live Gamer HD or something.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm getting a PS4 picture through Blackmagic's default software with 720, 1080i and 1080p, which would suggests the problem would lie with OBS rather than the BMIP, right?

Not necessarily, but perhaps a problem with DirectShow. DeckLink has an SDK of their own that they most likely use for their own sofware.

Edit: Just checking, you are making sure to match the resolution in OBS with what you have selected in the BlackMagic Control Panel, right?

Hello again,

Your edit on the last reply turned out to be incredibly helpful as it prompted me to click around in the Black Magic software to find the solution. Problem solved!

Thanks for your help and keep up the good work with OBS.

Not to totally make this off topic, but Live Gamer HD streams 1080/60? I thought the max was 1080/30 or 720/60?

It was trial and error, but these images show my settings current settings that record PS4 footage. I hope this helps.

Could not get any video input after using your settings either :( I noticed though, that you are using version 9.8 of the drivers. I am currently using 10.1.1; should I revert?

You could give the revert a try, but I'm not knowledgable enough to fully recommend this.

I can't emphasise the trial and error element enough. Are you getting an image through Blackmagic Media Express software? I found once it showed up here it was a case of tweaking the settings in OBS to make it all click together.

Not getting video in BME either, I've tried a number of various resolution and frame rate combinations on both my PS4 and PC.

Installed 9.8 with no luck. Just to reiterate, I've copied your settings above and set my PS4 to 1080i with HDCP disabled.

Really not sure what the problem could be then. All cables working properly? Inserted into the correct input/output slots (this was a problem I encountered)?

BME settings...

Yes, all cables work and are plugged into the correct slots. BME settings are the same as well. Probably just going to sell this card and buy one of the Avermedia cards as this isn't the first time I've had issues with the Intensity Pro, and it probably won't be the last.

Wooooow! Thank you!

I was wracking my BRAIN over this, man. Thank you for the solution! What a silly bug.

For what it's worth, I have my Black Magic Control Panel / Config set to 720p / 59.4fps but I had to set OBS manually to 1920x1080 and 29.97fps as per your first screen shot.
