Question / Help Problems with running from remote desktop

I use multiple computes but stream from only one of them. I can get things working fine and remote into the system but when I do there is a 50/50 chance that obs will crash. 100% chance if I had sound enabled at all in obs at any time. My slideshow stream works otherwise once I relaunch obs from remote. Today I ran into a new issue though. I setup a window capture from the machine itself. I was able to remote in and the capture worked for about 5 minutes then OBS crashed. When I launched OBS the window capture was just a black screen. This is on a Win 7 64bit machine. I have though of setting up under linux but would it help at all with the remote access issues?

Try installing a (secured!) VNC host on the machine. RDP can cause a lot of programs to freak out if they aren't written with it in mind, or use GPU accelerated functionality (like OBS does).

I'm just curious what you're trying to do with the remote client though. Seems like a KVM would be more appropriate if you just didn't want a second set of peripherals laying around. Or the OBS Remote plugin for basic remote control functionality over an encoding machine. If you have a dedicated monitor for the encoding machine, might also look into Synergy (seamless multi-PC control, which also works cross-platform if you do decide to go to Linux).

KVM doesn't work accessing my equipment when it's next door. I do have have 2 KVM switches where the equipment is so no dedicated monitor for any of the machines.

I have a support channel setup and use OBS for just a slide show so I leave it running on just one machine. Works great for the slideshow (music aside but my upload speed is too slow for music it seems anyway). I was trying to add the current price of bitcoin over the slideshow which worked fine until I remoted in. My eventual plans were to install linux on an old file server after I put a decent GPU in it and just set it up as a dedicated machine for streaming. I haven't tested the cross platform version yet and was wondering how it would behave being accessed from remote.
