Hey there,

So I'm having a bit of a problem with my Game Capture, specifically with capturing Steam games. I looked through https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/laptop-black-screen-when-capturing-read-here-first.5965/ but that seems to apply to laptops. I'm experiencing problems on my desktop. With that in mind...

Here is a copy of my log:

I'll try to explain the issue as best as I can.

Basically, I am trying to stream a Steam game. Specifically, I am trying to stream "Transistor". When I add a Game Capture for Transistor, it initially works. If I close OBS and re-open it, the Game Capture scene dedicated to Transistor will go black. It gives me an error that "window is not found". If I go into the Game Capture properties and refresh it, then the game will sometimes reload, and sometimes it will not. Also, Game Capture only captures Transistor if I am playing it in windowed mode. If I play it in full-screen mode, then it will not work. Also, if I alt+tab out of the game, then the stream goes crazy and turns black.

In contrast, I have a number of Blizzard games that do not have this issue. I have tried Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, and Hearthstone. Whenever I start those games up, the scene will load without issue. In this example, I loaded up Diablo 3 and OBS captured it without any difficulties. The same happened with Hearthstone. I also do not have difficulty with League of Legends, although I do have a plugin specifically dedicated to streaming that.

What I want to determine is: why is OBS failing to detect Transistor, and other Steam games, when I either (1) close and re-open a Steam game while OBS is still open, or (2) close and re-open OBS while the game is still open.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll have to ask around if anyone has issues with transistor. Steam games are generally fine, at least on my end.

I've had similar issues with other steam games, such as Monaco, Payday 2, Risk of Rain, and Warframe. It's not just Transistor. I was referencing the game specifically so you would be able to tell what window it is in [the source is also named "Transistor" with the scene being "Steam Games"].

Edit: It seems to be working with Monaco/Warframe, and I had to use window capture to get Risk of Rain to work. Still doing tests. It seems like Transistor is still acting weird.

Edit: It appears Guild Wars 2 is having the same problem.

OK lets see....
Transistor: playing in windows mode obs detects, but on OBS restart i have to refresh for it to detect properly (game capture)
GW2: only work with window mode =(
