Question / Help Problem with capture card software

So I recently got my hands on a Hauppauge hd pvr 2 gaming edition plus but I am having some problems using it in conjunction with OBS. To my understanding I can't directly use it with the normal version of OBS and the multiplatform version has no windows download, but I should be able to just window capture the happauge capture software and sub region it right? The problem is that the preview window in the capture software is just black when it's in obs, the menu and buttons are there but not the game (if I look directly at the software the game is there no problem). I tried searching for the problem but the only similair problem I found was if I was using a laptop which I am not. So anyone got an idea for a solution? I have seen people on youtube capturing the software and seeing the game through it, but mine just doesn't show up.
 
So when playing around with stuff a little I found that I can get window capture to work IF I disable windows aero, however for windows capture to work properly I have to have windows aero disabled... (otherwise it basically becomes a weird monitor capture but just for the aera that the window covers). So that might be a clue for someone?
