Question / Help Preview doesn't show MP4 file playing

When opening a scene that contains a MP4 file in studio mode or multiview the MP4 does not play until transitioned to the live window.
Anyone know why that happens?
For some reason some play but others don't.

Thanks

Well, Sus, that really sucks....
Studio is supposed to be there so you can add and edit while being live...I rarely use it because if you can't see all your sources then it's useless for me...
Oh well..
Thanks for the reply...

@Harold there is no such option in obs studio.

@Banyarola it is unknown what to do with the audio of the media, because it should be rendered to the audio device and thus it would appear at output earlier than you want.

OK. The Studio Mode was designed to resolve major mistakes during streaming not for realtime edit.

"Visibility Behavior" in VLC Source. Yes it does exist in studio.
"Hide Source when playback ends" in Media source.

@Harold

1) check it twice - the option only says of playback control for VLC Video Source. And this playback control connected to visible/invisible (it doesn't says "goes to output" or something similar).

2) "Hide" for Media Source - is not true, because the eye icon not changes its state - the source simply becomes transparent and audio ends by itself (what it looks like).

Hi all. So I cannot get Media Source or VLC Video Source to play any MP4's.

I have some motion graphics. I tested them in all my other players and they play fine, so its not the file thats bad. I started with media source, which wouldn't work. Then after reading tried VLC Video Source and tried to make a play list. Both have the same results.

I had another scene Collection which did have a Media Source working previously (about 2 weeks ago) That played a motion background. But now suddenly nothing works.

I am reattaching my screen shot. Essentially when I add either Source type the result is one little red circle in the upper left corner of the left side window in Studio. The source doesnt appear in the example/preview window of the properties window either

I am also attaching my log file hoping that might help. I will add both media source types. and name them MS1 = Media Source, and VLC1 = VLC Video Source.

I am using OBS Studio 21.0.1 64 bit. VLC 3.0.1 Vetinari and it is also 64 Bit

Before anyone suggests it. I have tried turning off all my Antivirus/Firewall software as well to see if that was the culprit. But it made no difference.

Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks again @Suslik V

I actually didn't even think of that simple thing to try. Leave it to me to over complicate it. I turned off studio mode. added the media source and voila, it showed up. Put it back into studio mode and the source is still working.

Thanks a million man!

What's up... I usually don't respond to forums (I actually just registered to answer this question).

I was having the same problem and I discovered that if you want your Media Source to play in the Preview Window while in studio mode what you have to do is open the Media Source Properties then UNCHECK "Restart playback when source becomes active"

This will now allow you the media source to be seen in the Preview Window. Hope this helps somebody out.

I have the same issue on a Mac in Studio Mode. I need to setup client videos, commercials to playout during breaks. The issue is I need to see the clips in preview so I know I have selected the correct one.
My work flow.
Set up Scene
Add Media source (mp4 video), this doesn't show up in preview.

I'm running on Mac 22.0.2

Any fixes on this?

@OTSWS the preview itself is useless, because you need playback navigation with thumbnails preview, source restart/unpause after transition, source duration and current position indication, sound mute or rendered to monitoring device only and so on.

Any of the mentioned features not implemented yet.

Hi.
I am brand-spankin' new to OBS and is wondering if you will share your workflow with me. I need to use OBS almost exactly the way you use it but I have no idea how to get started. Specifically, are you building a playlist and if so, how? And, that you know of, does OBS have the ability to interrupt a file (i.e., PAUSE it) at a specified frame so that another playlist can be executed and upon completion, the original file (the one that was interrupted) picks back up and either plays to completion or until it is interrupted again?

Glad you posted a year before I ran into this same problem in 2019

I have to say I'm late to the party, but responses like Suslik's saying "it can't be done" is not helping the OBS community. Thankfully knowledgeable folk like mhdagreat are here with actual answers on how to fix this stuff.
