I have to say I'm late to the party, but responses like Suslik's saying "it can't be done" is not helping the OBS community. Thankfully knowledgeable folk like mhdagreat are here with actual answers on how to fix this stuff.

You're kidding, right? You're comparing a user who has a single post, two years ago, to a regular contributor in the forum who contributes code to OBS?

Good grief.

I'm here. If you want to bring some attention to the question, then you already did this. I'm contributor of the OBS code and its changes as well as many other people. The quotes of me just saying that "please, don't wait for the feature" because it takes years to be implemented (year 2020 only proofs this as you see). But you may have hope in better future. Project (site etc.) has nice price that means it is in good health.

The problem with the solution from mhdagreat is the video does not restart and play from the beginning when you transition it out of preview and into Program window. The easy solution is to create an appropriate thumbnail for the video and add it as an image source. Make sure you insert it below the video in the Sources window. This way the image shows up in the preview pane and you have a visual reminder of which video it is. When you transition it to the Program window, the video will restart and play from the beginning and as it's on top you don't see the thumbnail.
