Precision Screenregioning

Hey guys,

Been a while since I streamed and I must say great job, really love the last few updates.
The experimental game capture really is a blessing.

I have a suggestion regarding screen regioning;
For precision screen regioning it would be awesome to select the region you want to stream with your mouse rather than changing the current rectangle. Don't get me wrong the rectangle works, but I feel its not as precise as say this way of screen regioning.

Setting a custom screen region feels somewhat cumbersome to use.

Being able to scale a region (say, make it smaller) would be great as well.
 
I think manually editing the scenes.xconfig file in %appdata%\obs will allow for coordinate precise editing, though it's obviously a less elegant method.
 
Krazy, you can do that in Software Capture source's properties window aswell, but they were talking more about the selector's look, to make it easier to use. I think a simple transparency option would work well, we would then see what's above our selection :)

Yes, basically. The option to select regions with the mouse much like a snipping tool with the same expand/shrink functionality the current screen region has would definitely make screen regioning a lot faster and easier to edit or create.
 
I agree with the screen region idea sorta like what is done wither other program it'll be easier and more useful for fellow streamers
 
Count me in. Something similar to what OP's image shows would greatly ease the use of the region selecting.
I'd like to mention tho, that the current "z index" of the selection rectangle isn't high enough. Applications, like MPC-HC set to be on top, are always above the rectangle.
 
I can only agree with this, consider it I have been spoon fed thru xsplit, but the process of creating a screen region if it isn't something I can window capture just is so cumbersome and is too much of a distraction during a stream.
 
Having a feature like this would make OBS infinitely times better. It is always a strain trying to sub-region a game or video. This would make everything much more simplified.
 
You heard right, but a bump will probably not help in any way.
Its definitely planned for the rewrite to include better positioning options. So I will close this thread now. For new ideas, just create a new one.
