Question / Help Open Broadcaster in a Dedicated Server

Hello guys,

I would like to stream a pre-recorded video 24/7 on YouTube using OBS in a dedicated server with gpu. GPU is important because OBS can't run without a graphic card. I don't need a VPS.

(Requirements)
GPU: Anything which can run OBS.
Ram: 4 GB.
Hard disk: 50 GB is enough.
Operating System: Windows 7/10 (Not Linux, please)
Budget: Around 100$/month.

Has anyone tried this? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

This seems more like something you should ask on lowendtalk etc.

Anyway servers with i7's will usually do the trick.

I bought a VPS with i7 and OBS can't run on it. The message "Failed to initialize video: Unspecified error". This is because my VPS don't have a GPU.

$100 / month... are you talking about renting a server or running it in the cloud? Damn near 100% of the experience from people on these forums is people who own their own equipment.

Assuming that's not a problem, then I think this is the best value for a dedicated OBS server: https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/47bzdc/budget_friendly_secondary_streaming_pc_guide . It doesn't equate to $/time... it probably costs around $1000.

I'm talking about renting a dedicated server. I only want to know if someone has used OBS in a dedicated server... I know most people of this forum has their own equipment :)

Well a virtualized server is out since you can't to my knowledge virtualize the GPU capabilities OBS needs. Are there dedicated servers to rent that even have a real GPU? That requirement alone should narrow your search significantly. I don't have any experience with it myself unfortunately.

You're right. Yes, there are dedicated servers that have a real GPU (GTX 970 or similar):

But are quite expensive...

As I said a dedicated servrer with a sandybridge i7 or newer will work. In the US I know reliablesite.net (which is a brand of some bigger company I forgot) who have some i7 offers that should work (look for discounts, they basically always have something going on). Other than that you'll have to look around

Also all E3 Xeon CPUs with a number that ends in "5" have a GPU, i.e. E3-1245v2 or E3-1275v5.

OVH also has gpu servers available under their "runabove" brand that are a bit cheaper:

Xeon with Iris Pro: https://www.runabove.com/iris-pro-gpu-server.xml <- this one should be withing your budget and fast enough
GTX 1080/1070: https://www.runabove.com/titan-x-gpu-servers.xml

However there is no SLA or anything so they might not work for production use.

If it's just looping a single pre-recorded file, ffmpeg will be far easier to set up for than OBS and doesn't have the GPU requirement.
