OBS wrote two videos onto the same file

I have no trouble re-recording them for now as they were only about a minute long, but in the future I want to avoid this issue. I record using the MKV format, and remux it to MP4, however I also record a facecam along with my gameplay, separately, so I can do more things with it in post. I've never had this issue before, but it would absolutely suck if it ended up happening after a long recording session.

I have no idea what happened, I recorded them both separately, and when I was done, I stopped both. I must've stopped them too fast or something, so they got the same name, and OBS wrote both videos onto the same file. The file itself was corrupt according to windows, but I could still remux it and/or watch the MKV file via VLC. The results were amusing to say the least, but rather irrelevant to the issue at hand. The point is; they were definitely fused in the same file. How can I avoid this in the future, and incase there isn't a way to avoid it, is there a way to salvage it when it happens?

I should add on that I launch two instances of OBS to record them separately, maybe there's a way to record them on two different video tracks, like it's possible to do with audio?

why in the world you chose to record from 2 separate instances of OBS Studio to the same folder? seems like a CF just waiting to happen (as it just did to you). Start by not using same naming convention?
Put one recording into a sub-folder, at least, of the other presuming that disk device has sufficient disk I/O to handle simultaneous write streams...
then after re-mux and deleting the MKVs, feel free to consolidate files into desired 'archive' folder, or whatever

If it's the only way to avoid writing onto the same file, I guess it's worth the trouble... I try to keep things as simple as possible for me, that includes using default naming conventions (Y-M-D-H-M-S) and recording into the same folder. Thanks for the help, I'll do that instead
