OBS Won't Stop Recording [02/06/2025]

Hello OBS Support Team,

I've been using OBS with the same configuration for a long time. However, after upgrading my PC to a more powerful setup optimized for streaming, I encountered an issue where I can't stop the recording anymore.

Previous Setup:

  • GPU: GTX 1070 Ti
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 3600X
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Storage: SSD

Current Setup:

  • GPU: RTX 3070 Ti
  • CPU: Intel i9-13900K
  • RAM: 32GB
  • Storage: M.2 SSD

With my old setup, I was able to record in 4K at 60 FPS without any issues—I could stream and record simultaneously without problems.

Now, despite the significant hardware upgrade, everything works fine while streaming: I click “Start Streaming” and “Stop Streaming,” and it functions perfectly. However, recording doesn’t stop properly.

I’ve tested various settings:

  • Different recording formats (MP4, MKV, FLV, etc.)
  • Lowering resolution to 1080p
  • Changing other encoding options

Nothing resolves the issue. When I attempt to stop the recording, the program freezes and doesn’t close properly. It generates an extremely small file, but when I copy and paste the file elsewhere, the full recording appears and plays correctly.

Additionally, when I edit these recordings in Filmora, a 30-minute video sometimes shows up as 2 hours long, which is very confusing.

Additional Information:

Please check this video I recorded showing the issue. The recording completes, but OBS doesn't close properly. When I force close it, the program crashes. Then, I go to Task Manager, delete the process OBS-FFMPEG-MUX, and magically, the file completes as expected—something that OBS itself fails to do. The resulting file works perfectly, even for editing.

This cannot be a CPU overload issue—I have an i9-13900K, which is far more powerful than a Ryzen 5 3600X, and I don’t even use the CPU for recording—I rely entirely on my GPU. I have also tried with another GPU on the same setup, and the issue persists.

Honestly, I've tried everything—checked forums, followed all recommendations, and still, nothing works. I strongly believe this issue is not on my end, but rather a bug in OBS during the export process.

Could you please investigate this?

Well, after struggling a lot and ALONE I ended up discovering the cause of all the problems

I used a Logitech webcam and was using the Logitune software, I just had to uninstall it and everything went back to normal

I hope this helps you who are going through this problem!
