Bug Report OBS won't refresh in Win10 - always shows the same entries

Hello all,

I've been having a problem with OBS lately where I can't get it to refresh my games list when I go in to choose a game in 'Game Capture' mode.

Here are the steps I take from a new install, since the only way to get it to recognize new applications is to reinstall:

1. Install OBS
2. Configure OBS based on previously working screenshots
3. Start my game
4. Open preferences and select the game window from the list - stream is working fine at this point
5. After I'm done streaming, the next time I open it it prompts me to download some sort of streaming list updates
6. Once I've downloaded these, I try to stream something else - not only does it still show the previous game I streamed (which isn't currently open) and will not show the new game even after refreshing, but it also shows a number of things I don't even have open such as Explorer, Pictures, and other Windows 10 app-based things. None of these items have an active window... it shouldn't be showing them on the list at all.

I will test not installing the lists this time as I get the feeling it breaks OBS when it downloads them, but including a screenshot of what I'm seeing after OBS gets 'stuck'. Weirdly enough after a while it suddenly stopped showing that the previous game was available for selection, but the game I *am trying to stream (Batman Arkham City GOTY) is currently running and the list has been refreshed. Here's what I see - none of the highlighted stuff is open right now:

Anyone else having this problem?!

Yes, Avast and Malwarebytes, but nothing I haven't been using in tandem all this time without issue. There wasn't even a version change of those softwares during the transition to Win10 and it was a clean install on a new machine, not an upgrade, which makes me wonder if it's Win10 that's the problem.

Hello, update to this...

I was streaming Arkham Origins today with no problem, with Avast running. I closed out of the game and was messing around with trying to stream other games. One of them was Stella (Atari) - not 'cuz anyone wants to see it but was testing streaming that anyway. I saw the stream for a few seconds but it was minimized in the preview window so I switched it to full screen and started the stream again. Black screen.

I stopped it and tried a few things in the game menu, eventually switching back to the non-full screen setting I had originally. Still nothing but a black screen.

After closing out of Stella I tried to stream Everquest as I've done many times in the past, but it wasn't seeing the game window again and refresh was once again failing to update. I had shut down Stella probably 45 minutes prior to this and so I figured it was glitched, and rebooted.

After rebooting I checked the site here and saw the suggestion to kill Avast, so before testing again I ended Avast and the browser, and then loaded Everquest and opened up the game capture properties to select it as the application. Here's what I see (remember this is after a reboot, nothing but OBS and EQ are currently running and this screenshot is after clicking the refresh button):

Not sure why this is still showing. I opened up this site again to post the results (so Chrome is now open) but checked the OBS application drop-down one more time. Now here's what I see:

OBS is picking up everything BUT my game windows now and the game that I was trying to stream when OBS glitched out is stuck on the menu. Why in the world would this be? I haven't changed a thing since it was working earlier. So far the only solution has been to reinstall after this starts happening.

Update - I also just now tried deleting/rebuilding the Scene in case that was glitching somehow - same problem, it won't see game windows. I tried the 64-bit version, same thing. I uninstalled/reinstalled... whala. Now it sees my game windows. It's prompting me to update those streaming list updates again, but the problem seems to happen after I do that, so I'm avoiding it for now.

Definitely sounds like your antivirus is breaking things. Closing it rarely does anything, most A/V requires uninstalling to completely disable as the kernel drivers remain loaded otherwise.
