Bug Report OBS Stuttering (Visible in Preview)

Hey there!

So in OBS, I'm getting a stuttering effect...


What I know so far ( Updated: 02/10/2013 - 3:34 PM EST )

1) The stutter is visible in the preview window, and it happens whether or not encoding in preview mode is enabled.
2) Stuttering occurs with both 30fps and 60fps.
3) With 60fps, the stutter seems to consistently occur every 13 to 15 seconds ( I can't say for sure with 30fps )
4) Aero appears to have no effect on the stutter.
5) The game itself is buttery smooth.

Your log files don't show anything particularly wrong, and I'm not entirely sure what's going on.

Now, if you're talking about the output, there is issues with h264 and side-scrollers, side-scrollers have notorious issues for stutter. It's actually pretty difficult to avoid due to the codec. However, that would not show up in OBS' preview window. According to your log, everything is running perfect, so I'm having troubles guessing at this point.

Hmm...

If you or anyone thinks of some thing I can try, I'll see if I can do it. Tis very odd :/

Perhaps tomorrow I'll see if lowering any overclocks fixes it. I could be wrong, but when moving in a scrolling like motion whilst looking at terrain in CS:Source, I don't think I noticed any stutter. I'll update if that is the case.

It's probably worth pointing out that this is happening when capturing the PS1 emulator "ePSXe" using the GPU plugin (GPU Bladesoft). So I could try messing around in there. Like I said, the game itself is butter smooth, but perhaps OBS is having some sort of, for lack of a better word, incompatibility with the emulator in some way.

I'll test some more games when I get the chance. Thanks for the reply :)

We'll ignore why the weird flickering is happening to begin with, as that's for a whole other forum xD.

Now what I want to point out is the inconsistency of the flickering. This does not happen in the actual game. The game is constantly flickering super fast, non-stop. In the video, the flickering sorta happens less frequently here and there. This is likely due to the lesser frame rate that occurs in those sections.

No dropped frames though... and the video stats in WMPC don't show any signs of loss in fps... whaaaat isss thissss xD

also have to appologise for reviving an old thread, but I've noticed this issue more and more lately. trying to stream mario kart wii in 60fps, and this stuttering is very noticable, even in the preview window. Any ideas whats causing it?
