OBS Studio VS WinDV for DV video capture

Hi All,

Im just getting started with capturing all my old DV home videos to the computer. I want to know if there is any benefit in capturing the video in OBS Studio VS old school program WinDV? I can not get OBS studio to capture thus far because of an NVIDIA driver issue (I posted a question about this as well) but I do have WinDV working.

SO is it worth trying to get OBS studio to work? I would like to experiment with upscaling the video, not sure if OBS does this, OR if I'm better off capturing 1st than upscaling via Software?

Try version 27.2.4 , link in sig. OBS can do upscaling, with sources and the canvas. IMO it's better to record at source resolution and frame rate with high quality and let the device/software do the scaling.

OBS has 5 options for source scaling (4 for canvas). Certain scaling "options" work better for different kinds of sources. You can access these by right clicking the source -> scale filtering. If you find your source looks blurry/soft, try changing it to bicubic for instance. Retro and pixel art can use "point" or "area" to maintain the original sharp look. https://obsproject.com/kb/aspect-ratio-guide

WinDV is preferable because raw data from the camera will be encapsulated in .avi media container (file) without modification. Later you can edit it in any compatible editor.
