Question / Help OBS stops responding but stream is still live

I have come across a peculiar issue that has happened to me a few time and I'm not sure what is causing this.

Today I was streaming my graphics program, no issues, everything running smoothly. I used Chrome to quickly look up a reference, closed it. About 1hr 45m in, I opened Firefox, wanted to do some things in it but suddenly internet seemed to stop working in the browsers, OBS froze but I was still streaming. The stream in the OBS window was still working but the controls, buttons, the green bars of mic and audio stopped working/moving.

Chrome would hang during opening. From what I could see the memory usage was around 60%. I couldn't stop the stream normally (hotkey or button didn't work), so I had to force quit OBS from Task manager. Since the internet hasn't started working after quitting OBS, I had to reboot my computer.

From what I can see the log of the latest stream is incomplete for that reason. No files in the crash folder.

I have no issues with internet or my PC like this when I'm not streaming. PC is connected via cable. I use laptop to monitor chat and internet (on wireless) worked fine during and after this.

Any help appreciated!

sounds like your computer is having issues, maybe during the high CPU usage OBS needs to encode. do some troublshooting. check your windows logfile. run checkdisk, check for excessive heat on the CPU and maybe even on your GPU. again, this doesn't seem like a software issue.
