Question / Help OBS scene problem

Hello, im new to OBS and trying to start streaming. I have most of it figured out and have actually streamed with a video capture device aswell as a game capture and it worked fine. my problem is, i want to be able to alt tab out of the game (for example, LoL) and the live stream actually see my desktop instead of the screen going black with my face in the corner. I tried using monitor capture to do so but it seems they are interfering with each other (something to do with the position(priorities) of the sources). either the monitor works, and the game capture does not, or the opposite. Please let me know what to do in this situation if its even possible to do. Thanks you very much and i appreciate your time for reading.

The scene switcher plugin in the plugins forum or work-in-progress plugins forums would be ideal for this situation.

OK so I have to physically switch scenes whenever I apt tab? And make hotkeys? When I watch other streamers it seems more smooth then that

No, the scene switcher does it automatically based on the name of the window you have focused.

The best way to stream LoL is to set up 2 scenes. First, keep Aero enabled. Then, in the first scene, have a Window Capture of the LoL client, and in the second scene, have a Game Capture of the actual LoL game (or Window capture if the game is in Windowed or Borderless mode). Then use the Simple Scene Switcher to automatically swap between them: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1785 Avoid Monitor capture altogether.

automatically swap between what? if i have window capture its still giving me the black screen when i alt tab.. all i want is the easiest way to completely show my stream what im doing on my main screen, whether it being playing a game or alt tabbing to desktop, no black screen, whats the best way to set up a source to do so.

Then it sounds like you should use only monitor capture and no game capture, and then run the game in Borderless mode. But that only works well in Windows 8, because even with Aero disabled in Windows 7, Monitor capture is really slow.

Or you could buy a capture card, I suppose.

Alright so its not just a problem with what im doing.... so most streamers use different scenes when switching to different views during the stream? just trying to understand. so i make a scene with my video capture device/monitor when im alt tabbed into say chrome, and a scene with game capture/video capture when im streaming the game. and switch with a hotkey or a plugin, am i right?

Yes, that's one option. Or you could do what I described in my last post, which only involves one source and one scene, but probably doesn't perform that well.
