Question / Help OBS render lag when transferring data over network.

Hi

I am running into a problem with OBS where if I start transferring data to/from my PC over the network OBS starts lagging (render lag). The whole scene goes choppy and unusable. I am still trying to troubleshoot but am reaching out to see if anyone has had this problem and whether they found a solution.

I have just updated my network drivers to the latest ones from Intel but that didn't seem to make a difference.

If I limit the transfer speeds over the network using NetLimiter, even to as low as 10mbit/sec, OBS still lags. Downloading/uploading files using something like Chrome doesn't seem to be affecting it though.

My stream PC can send data over the network and not suffer this render lag.

Update:
So it is only when data leaves my PC over the network, whether I start a transfer from the affect computer or start it from another computer on the network. As soon as data starts being sent from the PC, OBS render lag begins. So strange.

Any one any ideas? Thanks.

Just a quick follow up. I run NDI for OBS... I am just experimenting with that at the moment to see if that is what might be causing it.

Hello
So, just FYI for those wondering....

It is NDI causing the problem, if it is a problem. NDI uses around 100mbit (or 10mb/sec) of my 1GBe LAN when sending data to the stream PC. If I then start sending more data it quickly degrades the NDI performance and shows as render lag on the gaming PC. This threw me as I wasn't expecting network bandwidth conflicts to show as render lag on the transmitting PC.

I don't even have to use the remaining bandwidth on the LAN port in order for the rendering lag to start. Also, this will happen if for instance Dropbox decides to sync a new file out from the transmitting PC, and if you have sync over LAN enabled in Dropbox, then of course it will push that file over LAN to other PC's.

So in summary, I think this is something that is unlikely to cause a problem as I cannot think of reasons why I would be sending stuff over the network while I am streaming, but it is something to be aware of.
