Question / Help OBS Refusing To Capture Games

OBS has increasingly been problematic for me this month. It all began November 2nd when I was helping to raise money for Extra Life where OBS began to stop capturing games when livestreaming. After a couple of reboots everything was fine. Now, however, after the latest update (V0.58b), it won't capture any games! All of the other features are working just fine. Including displaying my webcam. But, for whatever reason, it won't capture games.

Can this be fixed soon?

This problem is also mentioned in the Known Bugs&Issues thread, but the workaround in it doesn't work for me so I have the same problem as you - I can't use OBS at the moment. Hopefully it will get fixed soon!

The capture method I'm using is Game Capture. The settings within is set to to a hotkey (pause/break). The games I have the most problems with are The Lord of the Rings Online, and ARMA 3. With LOTRO, whenever I alt-tab out of the game OBS won't re-capture the game whenever I press the hotkey. Yes, I tried un-checking the Game Capture box then re-checking it, but I'll need to do this at least 4 times for it to re-capture. Just not exceptable.

The auto-select application feature simply doesn't work resulting to use the hotkey anyways. Currently, I'm forced to use something else because of these problems.

OBS was a great freeware product, but now my hand is being forced to go somewhere else.

Are you runing the games in windowed mode ? You should since fullscreen use to give a lot of problems

Well, to begin with LotRO is kind of... known for being less-than-optimized. And Bohemia Interactive (dev of Arma 3) is quite famous for putting out shoddy, crappy code (I mean, just look at Take On Helicopters... that thing is a travesty, when it's billed as a 'sim'... I strongly suspect Day Z's success may be one of the only reasons they still exist as a company).

If the capture only sometimes works, I'd more suspect something with your system setup or OBS' config; can you please post a complete logfile from a live streaming session, as requested above?
If you're already hard-decided on switching software though, catch you around!

We cannot help you unless you post a log. It's like saying "help my heater is broken in my apartment", but you won't let the repair guy in to see what the problem is, and then you say "I'm leaving because you aren't fixing the problem", even though you wouldn't even let us in to see what the problem is.

I would kindly ask you not to post in your thread again unless the post contains a log file.

I haven't given up on OBS, yet. Currently, I'm looking for other freeware programs that can replace OBS if this isn't fixed. Here is the complete logfile of the stream I've done minutes ago where I played two games: TrackMania Stadium and Lord of the Rings Online. TrackMania being the first game I played and it worked fine. Lotro, on the other hand, I couldn't even capture the game at all. It quickly became an audio podcast at that point.

Thank you very much for the log file, I appreciate it, and it was useful.

Ah, an AMD APU, These have been known to have issues. I don't see them all that often though. I wish I had one to test with. I don't believe this is a bug with OBS, more an issue with the APU and the capture method.. However, depending on the system, it could just be a permissions thing. It could just be because you need to run OBS as admin (if you're not already). You might also want to try game capture hotkey as well. Otherwise, if you have issues with game capture with that graphics adapter, you can use window capture instead which is generally almost as efficient as game capture -- with the caveat that it cannot capture games that are running in fullscreen mode.

If you want to "replace" the program, then whatever, just please keep out of the forums. If you want help, I/we will do my/our best to help, analyze, and fix or find workaround for problems where possible. However, understand that talking about how you want to or intend to "replace" OBS if a problem is not fixed is not constructive and will just tend to agitate people more than anything. So I would kindly ask you to keep such thoughts to yourself so we can focus on actually trying to solve the problem rather than create drama.

Thanks a lot for understanding, it means a lot to me. Can lotro run in borderless/windowed mode? If so maybe I could try to see what's up with game capture over teamviewer or something, if you want. At least so I can look directly at the issue first hand or something. I'm always in chat and you can feel free to come by some time -- just make sure to say my name (preferably in a private message) to get my attention
