OBS problem with capture card

I use the following USB capture card with OBS

running on a Windows 10 PC with an Intel core 2 quad Q9100 CPU and 8 gigs of RAM

Sometimes the screen looks like this.

and the only way I can fix it is by restarting the PC.

Was doing that before I added the webcam, but the webcam does it as well and is that square box near the lower left corner of the screen.

The problem shows up on the stream itself.

How do I fix it?

Here's the log

Have you tried using video format of YUY vs MJPEG for the capture card?

Sorry for the late reply. Didn't get any email notification and just happened to check in here to see if there were any replies.

Not yet. I can try.

Most of the time it works just fine, but sometimes if I close OBS and open it back up then it has problems.

Could it have anything to do with the USB or the capture card not being very expensive?

If you are using a laptop, I would recommend adjusting USB power settings if you haven't already -- this feature may cause problems with the operation of some USB powered devices.

USB Selective Suspend Settings, follow the steps below:
  1. Press Windows + X.
  2. Choose Power Options.
  3. Select Choose when to turn off the display.
  4. Open Change advanced power settings.
  5. Expand USB settings and USB selective suspend setting.
  6. Select Enabled (default) or Disabled.
  7. Click Apply, then OK.
Alternative way to access:
  1. Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager
  2. Click + next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
  3. Right-click on first "USB Root Hub" icon > Properties
  4. Click Power Management > uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
  5. Repeat until all USB Root hubs have been changed.

It is a desktop.

I'm pretty sure the settings are right, but I'll verify them when I get home to be sure.

The PC is from 2010

I had the video format for both the webcam and capture card set to any. I could set the camera to YUV2 and it was fine, but was a lower frame rate. Setting the capture card to YUV2 resulted in a black screen so I set both to MPEG. Still have the problem.

Have you updated OBS studio since your original post? Your logs are showing 11:10:43.185: OBS 26.1.1 (64-bit, windows)
OBS studio was recently updated to OBS 27.0.0 (64-bit, windows). Also check for any Windows updates and any driver updates that may need to be installed.

Once you update OBS studio and install windows updates -- restart the computer, try replicate the issue again, and provide that log file if the issues persist.

I can try and see, but I think OBS just recently updated.

Just checked for updates and it says no updates are available.

Now if I pull up the Windows 10 camera app both the webcam and capture card display just fine.

So perhaps it's something in OBS causing the issue.

Seems like it gets worse to where I experience the issue more and more.

Unfortunately I cannot get a better video card yet so for now I must make this work if at all possible.

Maybe a faster processor will help.

You have minimum 20% lags in rendering, your graphics is too old (not have power).
Maybe install old version OBS?
I have one old computer and use only old version OBS.

Would that cause the issues with the green lines and black lines?

Now when it works, it works decently enough to where I feel the stream is ok.

See, I just don't get why OBS has this problem sometimes and not constantly.

Sometimes all it takes is for something on the screen of my main PC that is being captured to change and OBS messes up. Sometimes just closing and re-opening OBS causes the issue and sometimes just opening up OBS for the first time causes the problem.

Here's another photo of what it does. A few minutes before, it was just fine.

Usually when streaming it may be fine once I get it right initially.

However if I'm for instance looking at things on Google Chrome on the display connected to the capture card it may mess up OBS and only a complete computer restart may fix it.

Perhaps it's my video card which is built in to the motherboard and was built in 2010.

Or maybe I need the slightly faster processor like I have for the main PC which is identical to this one only it has a better graphics card.

EDIT:

Just got a BSOD on the stream PC.

You have some problem probably with memory, check your RAM, other is temperature in olds parts like dust and that stuff.
Green means that this element was loaded incorrectly (it is damaged).
BSOD - big problems with old computer.

Nothing actually wrong with the computer as it works just fine for everything else.

RAM was bought new I believe sometime around 2018 or 2019.

Now the capture card and webcam work just fine with the camera app of Windows 10.

If you are not using the capture card, does the issue still exist? There are a lot of variables, and eliminating things one by one until the issue doesn't exist will help pinpoint. You could create a new profile in OBS, and only add the mic and webcam - run test. If it doesn't happen, but happens once the capture card is added -- you know where the issue is.
