Question / Help Obs not recording Mic

So when i open OBS, the mic seems to be working, it is set as default on my computer (Windows 10). The green Audio bar moves when recording and streaming and also when i'm not. But when I try to record, the video works but the microphone audio doesn't. Any help? I have a Logik fold able wired headset which is compatible with Skype and works on all but OBS. This is a new microphone and my old one also did not work.

I'm not getting any sound in my recordings either, same behavior as the OP. It's not a player issue as there is no sound when playing in VLC either. Desktop and Mic sound are registering in the OBS interface, but that is not being encoded in MP4s.

When I switch the recording format to .flv it recorded the sound just fine. So, seems to have something to do with sound encoding in MP4 format. I've tried various advanced options combinations to no avail.

Any ideas?

Save directly to flv and if you need it in mp4 for editing software, remux after recording.

Sure, that's a workaround, but I'd rather have OBS working correctly rather than extending my production chain.

So you'd rather risk an 8 hour recording session going completely to waste instead of adding the one step that only adds about 8-10 minutes to the entire work chain?

No I'd rather fix the problem. :D

Interestingly enough, I tinkered with the audio bit rate, that didn't do anything so I returned it to default setting and now it's working. But only if I remain in advanced output mode. Switching to basic mode introduces the loss of audio in MP4s again.

I'll have to test it some more and see if it holds after restarts etc...

No matter what you do, if you prevent an mp4 from being finalized properly, you corrupt the entire file. Period. Fullstop. End of Discussion.

Saving to FLV then remuxing afterwards IS fixing the problem.

Good, I'm glad you think the matter closed.

So, no sound when recording to MP4 format. DreadedGamer: are you recording to MP4 or some other format? What are you using to edit the video with? Did you try the VLC thing, and if so did that produce sound?
