Question / Help OBS microphone setup

Hi guys,

Got a few questions about setting up my condesor mic and interface. I have a steinberg mr816x (connected via firewire card on my pc) and a AKGc414, funnily enough I record professionally but i'm stumped how to get my edited audio signal into OBS.

Basically what i'm trying to do is apply VST/Software EQ/compression/noise gate to my microphone inside Cubase and then have OBS pick up the edited signal and output that to my stream.

I can easily get OBS to pick up the dry signal with no processing just setting it up as line in of my audio interface but I don't want it dry I want to apply some software effects.

Anyone have any idea how to go about this? I heard of some program called VAC (virtual audio cable)

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Since you already have a audio interface, you may don't need to use VAC. Try changing the DAW audio output to one of the audio interface outputs and then connecting/rerouting it to one of the mic inputs. So basically you are doing the same thing as VAC on your audio hardware. Then you just have to set the mic input, which OBS should use.
I'm not sure if it will work that way for you, since the seperate audio channel of your audio interface may not be recognised by OBS, but it's definitely worth a try.

Most DAW(Cubase too) will allow you multiple outputs. Just route your mic (or the master output in cubase, dont know the software audio routing) to an output and connect it to your line in on a usual soundcard. Then select the line in as your mic input in OBS. That will do the job. You can also use more channels and your DAW as a software mixer - you should know how it works.
I have done this with Ableton Live 8 & 9, Terrasoniq Phase x64 USB and a T-Bone condenser mic.
Not the fancy good stuff that you use, but its pretty much the same - audio interface, condenser mic with phantom power and a DAW, connected via ASIO driver.

In Ableton i can route each channel to an output (edited or not) or the whole master output.
Your audio interface will use ASIO, this is why OBS doesnt see it. You have to do some analog connections to your onboard soundcard to have edited mic sound.

If you have some questions - i can help you out with this stuff. Many people requested this kind of stuff so i will do a short tutorial how to do it in general (there is so much sofware and VSTplugins there so its impossible to cover anything^^).
