So, i just tried setting up my OBS for local recording. But when i start recording, it is black and flashy and all messed up for a few seconds.

I remember having this with Xsplit, and there is was because of bframes. So we added a line of text to disable bframes.

Is there anything similar for OBS?

You can add custom x264 settings in the Advanced settings. What are the settings you want to set?

i just want to get rid of the messy things at the start, so probably just removing bframes.

Also, for the x264 presets, when you have a very good pc, you have to choose slow, right?

I mean what are the exact settings, i.e. what do you want to type into the box?

And no, you don't have to choose slow. Veryfast is recommended, but if you have the spare CPU cycles, you can try faster or fast and see how it goes. I don't recommend anyone use slow.

Ok, mine was on veryfast. But thinking bout the old Xplsit made me think i was doing it wrong^^

to type in the box, i do'nt know what it is, is it &exe:bframe=0 ?

Does that black and flashy thing only happen in the beginning? It might just be the capture plugins initializing or something, I'm not sure. Let me know if setting b-frames to 0 helps. Just know that your video size will probably increase at least a little, because b-frames are the more compressable type of frames when it comes to video encoding.

Also, in terms of what you need to enter there, the format goes like this (as suggested by the tooltip): [parameter]=[value]. Looking up the documentation of x264, I think you need to enter something like bframes=0.

I don't have any plug-ins, so that can't be the problem.

Update, it was gone in the last thing i recorded, i hope it's just magically fixed itself forever now.
