Question / Help OBS Lag/Stutter when recording locally

Hello all,

I've tried recording a couple of games with my new PC using OBS (obviously). First I tried recording Just Cause 2, after a bit of fiddling I managed to record okay, however, after switching to a couple of faster shooters (csgo and dirty bomb) and when looking back at the footage, it either stutters often or totally freezes...

Any ideas to how to fix this?

Thanks for the link!

I only plan on recording. I haven't touched the streaming options at all so I'm not too sure why it's saying I've tried streaming haha.

set the QSV preset to speed not best quality. this isn't needed with local recordings
change process priority back to normal (at most use above normal).
use higher buffer and bitrate for better quality 10000 bitrate and buffer
scene buffering to 700ms
Check audio format for mic and speakers, make sure OBS matches that audio format. either 44,100Hz or 48,000Hz. this will be in the encoding tab.
uncheck CFR unless you are editing your video prior to upload to youtube


After doing all this RESTART OBS then record for 5 minutes then post that log. if that does not fix it, try changing to x264 and use 0 buffer and ultrafast preset like in the link that montiago suggested

Where would I find the QSV preset?
And I take it when you say Buffer Scene Buffering you mean change the size right?

scene buffering advanced tab
custom buffer is encoding tab
QSV is another name for quicksync which has its own tab in OBS.

No you didn't suggest it at all, it was mentioned in the link that Montiago sent. I will try doing so now!

crf 10 was never suggested. it suggests between 15-20 with 20 being fine for most recording. In this case, just remove custom options til we get it working
