Hey guys so i was planning on buying the Elgato capture HD and use it with OBS.
Now i see alot of people are having problems with delay's.

Can anyone tell me what is causing this and will i be affected by this?

Specs

I7-4770k
GTX 760
8GB ram 1600 mhz

Been looking around but i've only seen some half and half answers and i just wanna be sure before i spend about 150-170 euro.

The Elgato works (as well as any other USB 2.0 device) with OBS but is not 100%. The main problem with the Elgato is that the video encoding delay which starts at around 1400ms will slowly increase over the course of your streaming, causing the video and audio to become desynced after an hour or two. If you have no options in the PCI-E slotted graphics cards and have to go with a USB 2.0 External Capture Card I would wait roughly a month from now to purchase it. Jim said that he is beginning to work on the USB 2.0 devices but they may not fix this issue until the rewrite of OBS which could be a while.

Ty for the responds!,

i assume connecting it to a USB 3.0 slot will not change anything? Will xsplit work better with the elgato? Because i really wanna stream console games and alot of people said the elgato is the way to go, but if i'm building up a latency delay after X hour of playing it just doesn't justify the 150-200 euro i'm gonna spend on it.

Thanks again.

Plugging into the USB 3.0 will not change anything no. I have never used Xsplit for more than 10 min so I can't say for sure but I have heard it does not have the exponential delay growth that OBS has. Again I believe Jim is working on this as we speak so hopefully we will see results soon.
