Question / Help OBS doesn't work with the HDMI input of my PC

Hi there people,

so i have an issue with the "Elgato Game Capture HD". The issue is that the device is not working with my pc, and i don't know why. When i select Video Capture Device, i can select the Elgato without any errors and such, but now if i want to preview the stream with my elgato connected it says "No device..." and yes i connected the capture card as it's supposed to be. Now but there is a strange thing. THe Capture card is not working on my PC but on my Laptop it is capturing without an issue, it shows my desktop of the laptop and i can configure it. By the way i these are my specs:

CPU : i5-4670K (4x 3.40GHz / 6MB Cache )
RAM: 2x 4GB Kingston HyperX Blu
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti
Motherboard: Asus Z87-K

What i have done so far:

- Windows Updates
- GPU driver reinstalled
- try another HDMI cable

would be nice if you guys could help me i realy want to stream in HD :( if you need more information about my pc, internet speed etc. just let me know

Well, you should really only use a capture card for capturing consoles, or capturing the footage from a second PC. Using OBS' built-in Game Capture is the superior solution for PC games in nearly all situations.

Anyway, I've dealt with this device myself and it's unfortunately very finnicky. First thing I would try to do is reboot. Second thing I would do if that doesn't resolve things is to uninstall the Elgato software entirely, reboot, the install again. Sometimes refreshing the driver seems to help. Lastly, you need to make sure you are using 720p as your base resolution in OBS and make sure your Elgato is set to 720p or lower as you currently cannot use 1080p on the Elgato with OBS.

Thanks for the fast reply, but i just noticed i messed sth up with the information i gave you. Im basicaly connecting my Gaming pc with my laptop (HDMI IN on pc and connect the elagto per USB 2.0 to my laptop), so my laptop is my streaming "PC". But the problem is that the elgato gets no signal from my pc but the HDMI slot is technicaly working since my pc displays that the elgato is connected. I hope this makes it a bit more clear :) I will try that what you told me and write the results down here.
