It detects Firefox & Notepad as a game though.

Problem is they're not games. Tried hitting REFRESH but nothin' doin'

Note - This is under SOURCES > GAME CAPTURE > PROPERTIES

My computer ain't messed up because it was just repaired. I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why Planetside 2, Alien Arena 7.65 & Star Defender 4 aren't detected

Am I not doing something right?

Help!

Cheers :D

Game capture only support directx 9 and newer games currently. try enabling windows aero and do window capture of the game running in windowed mode instead .

Well here are my system specs.....

* AMD E1-1200 APU Processor with Radeon HD Graphics rated at 1.4 Ghz
* 4GB RAM
* Windows 8 64 Bit
* No Pen Or Touch available
* Generic 21 inch Monitor

Now Aero should be enabled by default but I'll double-check to make sure

Hope this helps :)

Cheers :)

Aero can't be disabled in Windows 8, so that's a non issue.

Are the games running when you're trying to add them?

No they're not running when I try to add them but I can work my way back to the desktop so I can add them in OBS though (I discovered this part of my computer today). I'll try it later on tonight & see if it works

EDIT Just tried adding a game while it's running while playing Star Defender 4. Didn't work Here's the blank screen video archive - http://www.twitch.tv/pcspaceboy/b/391172292

What I did IN EXACT ORDER.....

* Start the game
* With the game running - Went back to the Desktop via the Start Menu
* Opened OBS
* Checked to ensure that OBS Detected SD4 as a running game (It did)
* Previewed the stream - This also gave me a blank screen
* Started my Twitch TV stream (Already had the key stored in OBS from before)
* Played the game to conclusion
* Watched a snippet of the archive from the URL above to check for capture

I have NO PVRs or anything else outlined in the FAQ which would act as a barrier either & my PC just came out of the shop LAST WEEK after a Hard Drive reformat & reinstall of Windows

What am I doing wrong? What am I not doing right?

VERY frustrated at this point

Try a diferent order: first start OBS, then start the game, then add the game capture source.

And did you try the suggestion to play in windowed or borderless mode and using software capture -> window capture yet?

Tried this already (In fact it was the first thing I tried)

SD4 can be played in Windowed mode but have you ever tried playing Alien Arena 7 or Planetside 2 that way? It can't be done because THEY DO NOT SUPPORT IT

And what good does borderless do when I already use FIT TO SCREEN anyway?

While OBS does have a refresh option that checks for open executables, do you think I'd posting here if I was able to broadcast my gameplay using the steps you mentioned ??

Useless response

Cheers :)

..., anyway:

1. Nope, sorry, I don't own those games, so I haven't tried. There's a possible fix, http://sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/home/Home/ give this a try.

2. Borderless has nothing to do with fit to screen. It just allows window capture rather than game capture, because game capture appears not to be working for you.

3. What I mentioned has nothing to do with the refresh button. OBS sometimes does not capture games that were started before OBS (black screen, even though its shown in the list), the solution is to restart the game, or in this case like I suggested, open the game after OBS. I'm terribly sorry I didn't sense that you tried other methods than the one you described.

I've tried both ways. Nothing doing.

What OBS needs for Game Capture is a wizard that scans for ACTUAL games. The way OBS is set up now, it think ANYTHING that's an *.exe *.dll or whatever is a game REGARDLESS of the folder it's in (Hence the thinking of Firefox being a game)

In short, the Game Capture feature is POORLY designed is needs to be rebuilt

Guess I'll have to shove a **** up m* *** and go **** m*****.....

Cheers :)

No, game capture detects anything actively using DirectX to render something.

It's possible Star Defender 4 has an anti-cheat in place that prevents OBS Game Capture from hooking into the game. If that's the case, you would need to use Software Capture -> Window Capture on the game, and have the game set to either Windowed or Fullscreen Windowed (As opposed to Fullscreen)

Comments like that do not inspire people to assist you. Especially when Game Capture is clearly working perfectly fine for tens of thousands of other people.

Perhaps it does. I'll try later on with Alien Arena & use that as a comparison

Just sayin' there's room for improvement to make OBS better & more user-friendly.

Afterall, that's what you're in favor of, right?

After playing Alien Arena a few times & comparing it to Star Defender 4, I think it's safe to conclude that because SD4 doesn't have a rendering engine that OBS recognizes like AA & other MMOPG games have, OBS isn't able to pull the video portion using the Game Capture feature

In fact, I would hesitate to say that FFSplit & ManyCam would fare any better at being able to display the video from SD4 for OBS to capture & stream

I have FINALLY gotten OBS to stream the video portion of AA using Game Capture (Audio BTW has never been an issue). Now I just have to experiment with the screen resolution some more to cut down on the lag in the stream (But thankfully that's something only I can do)

I'll keep everyone posted on my progress :)

Cheers :)

Star Defender is probably a flash game in a wrapper. Game Capture is for capturing DirectX, AKA what most 'Real games' use for rendering.

Yeah, Star Defender is some crappy flash game. Game Capture is not designed for this at all. You'd have to use some form of Window Capture.

Wow. False sense of entitlement much? You do know that most people stream more than just "REAL Games", right?

Protip: If you are still taking your computer to 'the shop' then you are not in any position to be dictating guidelines for software development to anyone at all.

Plunck down that $$$ - but don't be surprised to find out that the 'problem' [user error] occurs within XSplit as well.

I'll be in my cave if you need me.

I found the solution. I had the same problem but with another game (APB Reloaded).

All you need to do is run OBS as admin and try to add your game as you would normally do.

Hope this was of help.
