"OBS" did not shut down properly....

Hello everyone,

For a few months now, I've been having this problem where my OBS keeps giving me this error message when I start it: "OBS" did not shut down properly.....

I use a few plugins. I was hoping the new OBS update would improve things, but unfortunately, that's not the case. I'm starting to get desperate, to be honest. Can someone help me or tell me exactly what the problem is? I've now set it so I don't get this message anymore, but I don't think that's a long-term solution either!

I'll upload a crash report for you.

Thank you very much!

Make sure the plugins are updated and compatible with this version of OBS. Remove any that isn't.
Alternatively, reinstall the previous version you where using.

Do you know a tool that's best for seeing this? I've lost track of the plugins a bit.

You can upload a log file in there or use the built in feature in OBS (Help menu) to upload and directly access the Analyzer.
This way you can see all the plugins you have. Remove all the ones you don't use. Check one by one looking in the plugin's page if it's updated and if it's compatible with the OBS version you're using.

This is crash of the OBS main thread. Small chance that OBS plugin can cause this. On close, the "SetTransition" function was called and then the libs that used to render UI crashed whole application.

The log from the session that was crashed (regular log, not a crash report) may has additional info. So, remove the "--disable-shutdown-check" command line key from OBS exe. Run OBS. Close OBS and if during next run of the OBS you'll see the message that previous run wasn't shut down correctly, then you may look at previous (last) log of OBS for details.

Here is my New Log:

Can you find anything to help me?

25 plugins... Start removing them.
And there's no output session on the log file so nothing else can be said about it.

Please, find the log file dated before the "2025-07-08, 22:26:25". Because you have posted the log from the current session of OBS not the last (previous session that is crashed on application close). Locate it manually, main menu Help > Log Files > Show Log Files.

On top of all the plugins (questionable) there's lots of Media Sources (Too many). I stopped counting when I hit 15 of them using Hardware Accelerated Decoding. That definitely is not helping your cause. 2 or 3 Media Sources in the main Scene should be using it, with it disabled for the rest of them.

Run only the monitor you're capturing from @ high refresh rates, all others 60HZ. Wasting resouces, save them for something else.

I wonder how it all still works with so many addons...
Anyway,
Code:
...
03:02:54.152: [obs-websocket] [obs_module_unload] Finished shutting down.
03:02:54.154: Tried to call obs_frontend_remove_event_callback with no callbacks!
03:02:54.238: Tried to call obs_frontend_remove_event_callback with no callbacks!
03:02:54.238: Tried to call obs_frontend_remove_event_callback with no callbacks!
03:02:54.238: Tried to call obs_frontend_remove_event_callback with no callbacks!
03:02:54.251: Tried to call obs_frontend_remove_event_callback with no callbacks!
...
after/before these lines should be information that the scripts unloaded, but there is nothing. About the messages - "advanced-timer.lua" surely uses callbacks.

Does it crashes each time you simply launch and close OBS?

...the message everytime when i start OBS
This is application termination or "crash" that happens on close. The crash report in this case may be generated or may not.

What you can do:
  1. Run OBS with the commandline key --safe-mode - OBS will run with minimal set of plugins and features (no scripts, no websocket etc). Then close OBS and run it again. If the message disappears - this surely caused by plugin or script.
  2. If the p1. solves the issue. Make backup of the Scene Collection and Profile ("Export" entry of the corresponding main menu of OBS). Make OBS portable in different folder and Import your Scene Collections and Profile saved earlier. Now add to portable installation all plugins that you used in casual OBS installation. For portable mode of OBS, to skip manual installation of all modules, you can copy whole OBS folder from the casual install to new location and make it portable (most plugins stored in OBS folder, only few in other locations, so most of the time it works OK). Now you can start to remove the scripts and 3-rd party plugins one by one. Each time you restarting portable OBS and checking for error message. If at some point the error message disappears - the last deleted plugin/script was the cause. The plugins can be deleted just by deleting its main ".dll" file - OBS will be unable to load this plugin and that is enough for the testing. The full list of the 3-rd party plugins (.dlls) is in the Analyzer link you have posted above. Most of the plugins are in the "portable_obs_folder\obs-plugins\64bit\" folder. For portable mode, please read after the words "if it was not clear": https://obsproject.com/forum/thread...»-when-opening-app-settings.82157/post-346499 or in the Help: https://obsproject.com/kb/portable-mode
  3. If the p1. does not solve the problem. Report it to the GitHub section: https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/issues
