Bug Report OBS Crash and Stream Quality Issues. Need Help!

Ok so to start OBS was causing BSOD's a lot for me recently. I'm pretty sure I narrowed it down to my external MBOX Mini audio interface. After unplugging it before I start OBS and using my Astro Mixamp as the "soundcard" instead of my MBOX I get no more BSOD's but now I will stream for a few hours, if I'm lucky, and OBS will freeze up and my stream will stop. In order to be able to start streaming again I have to completely reset my computer due to the fact that the OBS process is still running in task manager and cannot even be forced closed. Since OBS is still "running" it doesn't release my Elgato until the pc is restarted. Yesterday it actually crashed completely which allowed the program to create a crash log. All the other times it did not see it as an actual crash so no crash logs were created. I have attached a log and the most recent crash log so you geniuses can try and figure this out and help me :)

My other issue is I have a pretty beast computer, good equipment, and plenty sufficient internet. My computer specs are in the log file although it says I have 4gb memory when I have 16gb I'm guessing due to the 32-bit OBS since 32-bit programs can only use or see up to 4gb of memory. My internet is 50 down and 5 up although when speed testing I consistently get around 60 down and 5.5 up according to speedtest.net and as a backup I use ISP Geeks to test my speed and QoS and the results were fairly similar with a 52.6 down and a 5.35 up. So I assume the results are pretty accurate. Now don't get me wrong my stream quality isn't bad by any means and is quite watchable. The issue I have is that with my current setup I feel it should be better. I know of people with similar setups and settings in OBS and their streams look a lot crisper and smoother. My stream just seems kind of hazzy/blurry compared to a lot of the other streams that have/use pretty much the same equipment that I have. Here is a link to one of my recent streams on twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/diggy_smalls/b/465635668 and compared to say a stream of Nadeshot's that also uses an Elgato and has a nice computer like mine, it kinda baffles me why his quality is so much crispier than mine. **Please note the log says that I stream 60FPS. I don't, I just changed that for testing purposes and it shows in the log file**

If any of you have any ideas or help you can offer me please let me know. I really appreciate it. Thanks Guys!

In the crash log it also mentions a .dmp file located at C:\Users\D'Angelo Ferreri\AppData\Roaming\OBS\crashDumps\OBSCrashDump2013-09-28_1.dmp could you upload that as well? It will also contain a lot more useful info.

Anyway, I assume that since you are using an Elgato you are streaming a console? If so, with your CPU you could consider lowering the encoder preset. You've probably got a lot of unused CPU power, so try Faster or even Fast. Should help some with quality.

I have tried lowering the preset all the way down to medium and still didn't notice much of a quality difference. I also have attached the Crash Dump file.

You have a good comptuer and OBS seems to be running fine for the most part -- the crash on stop is something that can happen depending on certain circumstances. Were you streaming when it happened? If so you need to give the specific log file from when you were streaming (if that's even possible), because the log file you provided seems to be a preview.

Your settings are also fine. 720p 60fps should look fine at 3000 bitrate. You might have to give a specific vod of this as an example.

Yes I was streaming when it happened but usually OBS just freezes and becomes non responsive and has to be force closed. I'll clear all the logs and stream. The next time it happens, I'll try and post the log file from that instance. Also this is a VOD example of what I am talking about with the quality: http://www.twitch.tv/diggy_smalls/b/465635668

On a side note. It seems that this happens after I stream for a few hours. So I can stream for a bit then it freezes up and I have to restart my pc then open up OBS and I can stream for a few more hours. Rinse and repeat.

Ah, hm, thank you for letting me know about that actually, though I'd really like to see a log file of you actually streaming (the logs are sorted by date/time)

I streamed yesterday and grabbed the logs for you to take a peek at. I also included a crash log and crash dump as well. Any ideas on the stream quality not being as sharp as it probably could/should be?

Another observation I had was yesterday, while I was streaming, it disconnected and then automatically reconnected after 10 seconds. I know I have it set to reconnect after 10 seconds but I'm not sure why it disconnected in the first place. My connection is pretty solid and I didn't drop any frames.

All your settings are perfect, you dropped no frames, and everything else seems to be pretty much perfect, outside of disconnection. The crash I'm not entirely sure about, for some reason it seems to be related to something you're using with a hotkey -- though just not sure which hotkey exactly (I should probably make it log that)

As for the disconnects, those are typically unrelated to the application. Too many variables typically involved to really make a real hypothesis on why that's occurring for you. Could be anything from server load, to poor routing or routing issues, to just bad connection, but other than that everything else seems fine. Not entirely sure.

Hmmm...Ok. As far as hotkeys, I don't use any. Is there a way to clear them or disable them since I don't use any? Or do you have any other ideas? I have a feeling it might have to do with my Elgato for some reason. I feel like the drivers for it get hung up in OBS for some reason. Also I noticed at the end of some of the logs it said Memory Leaks Detected. Is it saying that my ram may be faulty? Do you think resetting my stream key might take care of the random disconnect issues? By the way I want to personally thank you for making an amazing free program and supporting it as much as you do. You are an awesome human being my friend :)

I grabbed a few more logs for you to look at if you like. During yesterdays stream it kept doing the disconnect/reconnect thing and these are the logs from that stream if you want to take a look at them.

Hey just to give you an update I decided to wipe my pc and start fresh. I also decided to try Windows 8 to see if it got along with my equipment better and so far been streaming every day with no crashes or disconnects. Not sure if it's Windows 8 or just the fact that I started fresh but either way I'm glad everything is working smoothly. Thanks for all of your help. It is much appreciated and also thanks for making a great program :) You Rock!!!
