Question / Help OBS causing media/connection problems

Hello,

Both Xsplit and OBS are giving me the same result when I stream. The problems have been as of the last 3-4 months, I havent had a problem beforehand.

When I start to stream, everything works perfectly for about an hour, then whatever game I am streaming crashes/has connection issues. Skype drops out and wont hold a connection, and my network adapter can no longer find any available internet connection. Once I close the streaming program, things return to normal, however the internet becomes a little unstable. I assumed it was my ISP throttling, however the next problem doesn't seems to point otherwise.

Once that all happens and OBS/Xspilt are closed, any media file/stream is laggy, warped, and has large amounts of stuttering. Youtube, Twitch, itunes, GOMplayer, VLC, doesnt matter what it is. Any sound or video on my computer does not work properly.

I have to restart completely to get everything stable, including my internet connection.

I have checked my router, ISP, and updated all drivers and the problem still persists.

I am running a MSI Z77A-GD65 Motherboard, 16GM of RAM, i7 Ivy Processor, with 2 SLI'd GTX 660TI Cards on Windows 7 Pro.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

Uninstall any 3rd party firewall / security / antivirus software, there's no reason why a simple TCP connection should cause this behavior unless there is interference from 3rd party software or a crappy router / modem.

Here is one from a short test I tried just a little while ago. Not the worst it has been, but it did force me to restart to fix the issues it caused

First thing to do would be to check task manager to see if anything unusual is happening across any of the active applications and background processes on your computer, like if something's active and eating up all your CPU/etc or something. Like r1ch said, sometimes some of this software can start up (some anti-virus are especially bad about that and will eat up system resources while checking your system routinely) and screw with things. I generally recommend having a clean system and not having background processes active if possible.

If nothing seems out of the ordinary there, might be something with the equipment that's becoming unstable after a long period of time streaming/gaming. If you're overclocking or anything it could be some sort of instability. I'd probably have to see your computer first hand to really know what's going on.

Does the problem happen when you stream via Ethernet? USB wireless adapters aren't known for being the most robust connection devices.

No background programs/firewalls up, and nothing eating bandwidth.

Also does the same thing on an ethernet connection.

Im starting to think maybe its a motherboard issue?

Ok so update

Reinstalled graphics and motherboard drivers, streamed and went fine.

Had the problem again, but now when the problem occurs, my computer locks up at the shut down screen

If your computer locks up, that's indicative of hardware issues, those things actually aren't caused by the software you run, computers are designed to be run at 100% capacity without freezing up or having issues usually. If you do have issues then it's almost always indicative of hardware issues of some sort. Overheating due to poor cooling, unstable equipment, but it's generally not the software's fault no matter how much the software is pushing your system.

User software cannot access hardware directly and there are many checks and balances between, so it's almost never the fault of user software. Only kernel/drivers/hardware issues can cause freezes

Any idea where to start looking for the problems? Based on what is happening?

Based on what you've described, a component of your computer may be overheating (but it takes an hour to get to that point), could be a memory leak (but it takes an hour to use up all the memory).

But because the first symptom you note has to do with network connectivity, I'd also recommend getting a replacement network card (and never ever use wireless for streaming).

Or it could be none of these things.
