Question / Help OBS and AverMedia LiveGamer C985

Hello,

I am sorry if this was already discussed or answered in the forum. I try to search in a few result but I still didn't foud the stright answer.

I would like to know, does the AverMedia C985, will do the encoding process as it has integrated hardware encoder?
Or OBS will do it as software encoding, it does no matter if I've been put in the scene, the capture card ans video source?
I just would like to know, is it yet possible OBS to use AverMedia C985 as hardwar encoder and not using the CPU as XSplit does?
Sorry for any spellchecks and grammers mistakes. And mentioned a concurent applicaiton.
I am happy to using OBS as it does a great job. Just I would like to know if it is possible or it is in a future plan.

The hardware encoder on the C985 is not supported by OBS. It's really only useful for local recording anyway as the compression it offers is pretty bad, you'd be better off using Quick Sync if you have a modern Intel CPU or NvEnc if you have an Nvidia 600-series or later GPU.

What do you mean? And where are can find this Quick Sync. I have NVIDIA GTX 670

That hardware encoder on the C985 might be supported in future versions of OBS.

QuickSync is a feature on Sandy Bridge and later CPUs. You have to have a compatible motherboard, too. What kind of CPU and Motherboard do you have?

You can't do Quicksync in that case, as its only built in to certain Intel CPUs.

You could try NVEnc, but its quality isn't much to write home about either, and possibly isn't a good idea if your game is already GPU-bound (which is more often the case than CPU-bound games).

You're probably better off doing the normal software OBS thing, and if you're not capturing from a separate PC or console, you don't need the Avermedia card at all.
