What are the current major differences between the standard OBS and the newer OBS MP and which one should I use to start streaming and recording? What are the pros and cons of using one or the other? Thanks in advance!

The old OBS is working fine, but no development (sadly, i like the interface etc). The new one offers way more options, filters and formats, also multiple audio tracks (the main point for people who stream and then upload to youtube - the music is on a separte track that can be removed withhin seconds).
The major point for the old OBS are the plugins, because the new one has only the browser plugin avaliable and people ignore it. So far i know almost everyone that i have contact to is using the OLD OBS, mostly because the new one is just meh. Me included. So i wish the developers would actually include useful stuff and keep a simple design.

Do you know if the Dev's are going to start including the plug-ins for OBS MP at some point in the near future at all or are they just focusing on basic usability? Also, what plug-ins do most people use in the old OBS that they do not or are unable to use for OBS MP? I would like to get into Twitch streaming and possibly a YouTube channel starting this summer after I finish my spring semester (IT degree). During this time I would like to teach myself how to use OBS and I will be launching a Kickstarter in the next month to raise some money to help me pay for my custom rig I will be building myself. I do not want to begin the Kickstarter until I feel like I can run OBS properly though. If you can answer the 2 questions at the start of this paragraph that would be awesome and if you know of any good YouTube tutorials or sites or materials that can help me out (besides the OBS website FAQ page, I read through that already) I would appreciate that very much.

Plugin devs need to get off their ass to make the plugins for multiplatform.

Browser plugin is available.
Video source plugin has been replaced.

Well its not about plugin devs, just add support for old plugins and wait for the rework. They work constantly, i see that what codex does and rutony with chats etc.

RutonyChat isn't even a plugin is it? It's all external apps and browser source content I thought.

Anyway I don't think there are any plans to make OBS-MP support OBS1 plugins. Maybe some day.

Okay, so what plug-ins do most people use in the old OBS that they do not or are unable to use for OBS MP? And what do these plug-ins do? Please do not just tell me the name as I will have no idea what you're talking about.

Plugins like Teamspeak overlays, automated scene switchers, a lot of automated chat plugins.

And yes, RutonyChat has no plugins, Ubiquitous whatever from Codex (hate that name but the chat is good^^) - it has one. And its impossible to capture it with transparency without that plugin. For me its on the OBS developers to make it compatible with the new version for a while at least.
These guys work really hard to provide mostly free plugins and tools, so having a new software that cant do crap with them is kinda meh. I will stick with the old OBS until it stops working, because the new one is far away from being even close to the usabilty of the old one, specially on the fly.

Ok, thank you, I will download and learn how to use the old OBS with plug-ins then. Are there any web pages that list different plug-ins and what they can do? Also, any YouTube tutorials you would recommend?

Yep. Still. a) because its working great for me and a lot of other people b) because its way easier to navigate, the MP takes more time & klicks to actually change something.
New stuff can be cool, but not if it is in an early beta state and way more complicated than it should (and can) be.
Sadly the old one got dropped, but me and a lot of people will stick with it and maybe even think about Xsplit before switching to MP. Hopefully stuff will change, i wait years for a full integration of professionall stuff and so far not a single thing has managed it into software :-(

Alright, thank you for all your help guys, I really appreciate it. I have thought about looking at XSplit but I am not going to pay for something when I am just starting out with streaming and YouTube. Hopefully they come out with proper plug-in support for MP in the coming months but for now I'll just teach myself on the original OBS. Again, if anyone knows any good tutorials please let me know. I'm watching ones from Technologyguru and DrPlayStationNation on YouTube for now.

The plugin support is not compatible with old plugins so far i understand that, so it forces anyone to rewrite the plugin? Most people have not enough time etc to do this, as you can see (no new shiny plugins eh). Whas a step back and not forward...

No updates to old plugins either, so that argument doesn't exactly hold water.

Also, the two biggest ones in terms of utility are included.

Browser (separate installer, but still included)
Video source (renamed to media source)

MP really isn't ready for primetime use. It's still missing a lot. And the UI is... pretty bad. Needs a major overhaul.

As of 12.0, a handful of the things keeping me from switching over:
-No scene transitions (yeah it's minor, but jump cuts look crappy)
-Can't crop sources separately per-scene (so if you need a closer cropped cam just in your in-game scene, you're boned)
-Can't enable the encoder without going online, to test load
-No ability to lock the scene layout to avoid accidental element moves
-Onscreen positioning options (center horizontally, especially) are needed
-Can't move multiple elements at the same time
-Can't duplicate scenes (for working off a master template)
-Can't auto-record when streaming
-Cannot set a gamecap hotkey (the auto-selection is dodgy for some games)
-Can't lock-on Projector mode (hitting ESC exits it, which sucks if you want it on an audience projector)

There's more, but the list rolls on. Really though, the UI is one of the biggest stopping blocks. It was clearly designed in an attempt to be 'newbie friendly' while sacrificing usability and hotkeys for the power-user end. It's badly cluttered, cryptic in many ways, and is an outright roadblock to any kind of smooth production workflow. It's really, REALLY bad.

Plugins will come as the program matures further, probably after feature-parity. At this point, most I know on the Windows side are sticking with Classic. I try MP again every few versions, and am reminded each time that it's still in early development, and will get better with more time in the can.
