Question / Help NVENC Questions

i have been told by a few different people all different stories on how to use it. but i like to know what you guys think is best.

been told i have to enable shadow play before i start obs and enable nvenc and then start streaming.

but when i looked at my stream the quality doesnt look better and my performance wasnt better.

am i doing something wrong here?
i have been searching through the forums but dont see much that could help me.
is there a manual about this? havent found one yet.

thanks for the help.

Make sure you are not on the latest Nvidia Beta Drivers. They currently do not work with OBS, this will be fixed in the next update. Apart of that you only have to change your encoder in the settings of OBS under Encoding Settings. Switch from x264 to NVENC. Shadowplay probably does not need to be running.
If you have a problem or nvenc is grayed out in OBS, please post us a log:
Problem? Make sure to post a log and/or crash dump -- HOWTO

well like i said i dont have errors or bugs to report its a question about nvenc since when i start streaming i dont see an improvement what does it exactly do?

Well, like I said, please post us a log file, so I can at least see that you really used NVENC.
The CPU usage by OBS should stay very low compared to a normal stream without nvenc. But you probably should have noticed the difference.
CPU encoding is better when it comes to quality at a certain bitrate, so the video quality with nvenc will be inferior to the quality of a cpu encoding at the same bitrate. Hence we recommend CPU encoding for online streaming. For a local recording you can just use more bitrate to reach the same resulting video quality.
