Hello, this is the first guide I ever wrote so please don't be to hard on me.

1. Requirement
  • OBS
  • Snip

2. Download snip
You can download snip from: https://github.com/dlrudie/Snip/releases/latest
All credits go to David Rudie for creating this great program.

3. Run and setting snip up
There is no installation needed for snip, you just need to run snip.exe and set it up for the correct program (itunes or spotify)
You can do this by right clicking the icon.

4. Set it up in OBS
  • Add a text (source) like in this screenshot:

  • Now select 'Use text from file' and direct it to where you saved the snip folder, select snip.txt. The rest is preference but here are my settings:

    Make sure to play with them till you are happy.
  • You can reposition the text by using the edit scene button.
  • Make sure the game scene is not displayed on top of the text and you should get an end result like this:

5. Have fun streaming
Have fun with your stream and tell me what I could have done better.
I might create a video guide later.

hey whenever i play a song, the text comes up as "$t" - $a. do i need to do something else to get this working?

Try right-clicking on the tray icon, click Set Output Format, press Defaults, and then click Save.

Switch tracks, hover your mouse over the tray icon, and see if it displays the track correctly.

I have the same problem, and that didnt work for me.

I see the issue. It affects iTunes only. I'll fix that and release an update soon. Thanks for letting me know.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, English version.

Using newest version of iTunes as well.

It was a pretty simple mistake on my part. I had a bug with the text replacement originally and I fixed it for Spotify output but forgot to fix it for iTunes output. That has been fixed now. I also added a small bit of code to make sure only one instance of Snip can run at once.

v1.6.5 has been released with these changes.

I have nothing planned. If you'd like to suggest something I could look into it. The source is also there so anyone can edit it.

Hey! Uhm, i got that text from wich song im playing right now. Is it possible to have that little piece of spotify where the song name is instead? And if so, how do I do it? I mean, like that screenshot you used in your guide.

Thats just example showing that the text shows the same thing as his spotify not that you can show that exact piece of spotify I guess if you wanted to you could technically make an image that is black that looks like spotify and output the text over it? I also saw that his last update now saves the album artwork, it just doesnt update in OBS when the song changes i tried utilizing the image slideshow feature but that didnt work unfortunately

Been using this for weeks. Had no problems with it so far. A very useful little program ;)

When i try to run it when winamp running, i did set all option i needed in winamp, and reinstalled it with global hotkey stuff, but i got a error from snip, apparantly something with framework/microsoft.NET.
