Note we're not asking you to disable avast to use OBS, we're asking you to test it disabled to see if that's the problem, please let us know whether it works or not so it can help confirm if this is indeed the issue.
At least in my case that is not the problem, confirmed.

Uninstalling Avast did unfortunately solve this issue for me. God fscking damnit, Avast. Disabling didn't help

We have several confirmed reports that completely uninstalling Avast causes OBS to function properly. For those having issues, can you temporarily uninstall and confirm that the issue goes away? We are actively looking to work towards a resolution that does not require removing Avast, but we need to be absolutely certain this is what is causing the issue.

This is extremely frustrating. I confirmed with someone that this is caused by avast. Disable mode didn't even work -- he had to completely uninstall it to get the webcams working.

This is due to my renewed code signing certificate, I have to renew it every year, and 18.0.2 uses the new renewed code signing certificate, so it's probably not whitelisted by avast yet. I'm angry that disable mode doesn't even work, they had to completely uninstall avast.

I can't ask users with avast to uninstall avast, that would be absurd. I have to somehow contact someone at avast to get whitelisted ASAP. I'm really upset that avast can even block webcams, and I'm even more upset that disable mode doesn't do anything.

Confirmed, Avast is the problem :/ I uninstalled the Avast and OBS works perfectly and the webcam hasn't any issue

FYI, the company I work for has over 30 users with Avast and it is known to block 5+ other video programs since the 4/29/17 patch. The only way to stop the block is to uninstall or turn the program to "passive mode". I have performed extensive testing and I am 100% confident the issue lies with Avast. We have begun snowballing support on the Avast forums here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=201702.0. Please post there if you are experiencing the issue. Alternately, I guess you could get a different anti-virus. Note that AVG has the same issue as it is owned by Avast.

Disable mode does not work, slamdown. The only way to get webcams working again with 18.0.2 is to uninstall Avast or revert obs to 18.0.1.

If this is a bug, hopefully they will fix soon.

If this is an intentional design decision on their behalf, to block webcams and video devices of non-whitelisted programs (which it's looking like, because 18.0.1's exe works fine), I'm going to be very upset. According to that thread, it's causing chaos everywhere. If they don't fix this issue, I'm going to have to start recommending people install other anti-virus software, because I can't make releases otherwise. I unfortunately have to have a contingency plan here. Hopefully they'll fix it, and I'm cautiously optimistic that they will come to their senses and fix it. I don't want to ever have to say "hey people, don't use this anti-virus software" -- it just sounds bad for a developer to ever have to say. Not just bad, ridiculous. People then misunderstand it or become suspicious or something.

As for my own experience with Avast, you need to make "ON" Passive Mode of the antivirus just once (in my case restart required), then run OBS Studio, as soon as camera appear again - you can "OFF" Passive Mode. Just in case, add obs files to ignore lists of the antivirus. This steps was tested for W7x64.

Thank you for the note about passive mode -- though unfortunately, it's really not good enough. This is absurd. This is stupid. This makes me angry. If this is a feature and they continue to do this feature I'm going to just start recommending people use another anti-virus that isn't designed to do this sort of idiotic thing.

I'm praying to god it's a bug -- because if it's a feature and they continue to push it, and the program continues to be affected by it, then I'm absolutely recommending people switch to something else. It's really making me upset.
