No audio in OBS until I run the Elgato capture utility first

I am livestreaming our church service every Sunday, using Win 10, OBS, and an Elgato HD60S which takes analog audio from our soundboard. Does everyone have to run the Elgato 4k capture utility first before starting OBS in order to get audio? If I don't, then I have zero sound in the audio mixer and nothing in the headphones.
Once I start the capture utility, the audio pops in loud and clear, then I close the utility and proceed with livestreaming. Does the Elgato utility start a driver or something that is required by OBS? I uninstalled OBS and the Elgato 4k, then installed the latest versions of both hoping that would fix it, but no luck. Trouble is, the capture utility seems to result in a lot of blue screen shutdowns. thx

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delayed response. In OBS, the only source is Elgato HD 60S. In the audio mixer there are 3 items. Desktop Audio and Mic/Aux are both disabled. Elgato HD 60S is enabled and is where I look to see if I have any audio. In OBS Settings, Audio, all settings are default except under Advanced where I have my Sony WH-CH510 bluetooth headphones selected as the monitoring device. In the Property settings for the Device, under Configure Video, I have #2/Analog Audio selected as the audio input. In Advance Audio properties There is a stereo analog audio signal from our soundboard plugged into the 3.5mm audio input of the Elgato. This signal works great as long as I'm getting audio to register in the OBS audio mixer. Let me know if this is enough info for you.
