New to OBS… Please don’t be annoyed with me.

I am new to OBS and was curious if anyone would be willing to help me advance my knowledge from beginner to average user?

I’ve been watching hours and hours of tutorials but they all kind of show the same things.

I’ve gotten to a point where I have questions and finding specific answers is getting difficult.

I have a few minor issues and would love to have some assistance to help me through this.

I get it. I’m a noob. I’ll just apologize in advance if these questions are easily solved.

1. When I record the audio from my files is not coming through the recording

I can hear my microphone but the audio from my media sources is not coming through.

2. How do you program the scenes to play in order?

Can I build a program with several scenes in advance… then just play them in order with the push of a button?

I’ve watched a few videos showing how this is possible but it’s not working out for me.

Where are the best resources for explaining scenes and sources and programming them etc?

Sorry if this is completely basic nonsense. I’m just learning and would love an easy to understand, updated resource to learn from.

Hey mate, it's all no problem, we all started somewhere.

Maybe the built in automatic scene switcher can help you a bit:
Check out this post.

Is that what you're looking for?

I just figured out, that Advanced Scene Switcher is the plugin for the job:

You can automatically switch scenes based on time and other stuff, also with delay, so perfect for switching scenes one after another,

Adv. SS is practically a programming language without actually saying so. So there are lots of ways to do the same thing, with different side-effects. Be creative! And ask on its Discussion thread if you need help:

As noted above, OBS Studio has Scenes, and naturally we put them in some order within the UI, but they aren't an 'Order' or 'Sequence' to play.
I also found and use Advanced Scene Switcher (AdvSS) for exactly such automation (along with a bunch of other neat tricks to avoid mid livestream 'oopses'). I started with AdvSS when it was NOT macro oriented as is it now. Those old automation approaches were still in there, just hidden (toggle on main plugin UI screen)... though such tabs are expected to go away at some point... they are a simpler starting point for some (ie Time & Sequence tab, especially, in your scenario)

However, if you simply want to play a sequence of videos, those could all be in the same Scene, and simply cycle thru them (manually, auto with AdvSS or other plug-in, or a playlist)... lots of options. If the only thing changing is the video/audio file to be played, then no need (typically) for a separate Scene.. I say that as Scenes can quickly get out of hand if you aren't careful. So use Scenes when you need to, but stay consolidated otherwise

I'd say the same in the other direction. :-) I have lots of simple scenes and switch them a lot.

But it's actually true both ways. You can manage the chaos, and move it around, but you can never reduce it past a certain point without also eliminating functions. Do what works for you, and test it thoroughly before you rely on it.

Ok thanks everyone for all the info. I’ve been navigating my way around and building the stream program.

I think I am going to create a new post with what I’m looking to accomplish

I have until Feb to make it happen

It’s a big undertaking for a new user but I’m willing to take it on and become
More advanced as I grow inside of OBS.

It takes a while, and a couple of things going wrong live (that's always fun!), to get to where you really know what you're doing, how the gear *actually* works, and how to use it well.

Keep at it, look back on it and laugh, and you'll get there!
