Question / Help New OBS installation doesn't let you chose where to install

I am trying to install OBS a new, and with new version I noticed there isn't an option to chose where I want to install it and because of that it install where it shouldn't (Program Files folder). How do you change that?

Re: New OBS installation doesn't let you chose where to inst

I have a SSD and a HDD in my computer. My OS and C: drive are on the SSD, and other various files on the HDD (my E: drive). My SSD has limited space, so I only put programs on there that I want to load fast. For everything else, I have a folder on my E: drive where I install them. Thus, I personally like to be able to specify where my programs are installed.

For now, if you want to choose where OBS is, just grab the zip version.

You can always use the .zip if you need to customize the install location. Keep in mind if you're posting on this forum you're likely already a power user - this change was made to help the thousands of people who aren't as technically minded have an easier installation process.

I can't think of any installer which doesn't let you change the install location. Novice users have used these installers for years.

It's not a surprise that every installer looks somewhat the same and has the same features. (installshield / msi / nsis / wix / etc).

To me, it's very weird to see 'novice' and 'streamer' in the same sentence.

Anyway, don't try to think for your (novice) users and deviate from years of experience and practices from other software companies.

In the end, there's a reason 'installer software' uses common practices and that nsis/installshield/wix all look the same. To provide a common experience to end-users.

my 2 cents.

edit: If you are a user that gets confused about an option to install obs somewhere else. How in the world are they going to setup obs itself. That's like 1000x more complex for them. poor souls

We used to have it where you could select the install location, but the 64bit version was screwing things up. I'll see if there's a way to select both possibly in the future, as I personally would like to have it be selectable as well.

@R1CH: No, programs should be isntalled where user want them to install.

@Jim: I am hoping this will be back, for now I'll be using the portable x64 version.

@dodgepong: I have my HDD divided so only system is on drive C:\ and nothing else, every software lands on drive E:\ so I don't have to reinstall them (if I don't need to, I chose to reinstall some software still, like Cyberfox for example) after I format my C:\ drive and also, so I don't lost my personal data with formatting. I hate when software puts just everything on C:\ and doesn't let me to chose some different place... (especially that my C:\ drive is also limited on space, I want only system to be there so there is only space there to hold the system and nothing else)

I was just about to ask a similar question. So whats the point of installing the Software or just using the "Portable Version"?
Is there any difference in performance if you install it or use it directly as a Portable?

I feel kinda fooled.

There is literally no difference. Only a matter of preference.
I don't know how you could feel fooled though.

If there is no benefit in Install the Application there is no reason at all that it is offered as an Installation.

Thats why. But thx for the reply good to know^^
